ZL1 or Porsche Cayman?

I understand this is a Camaro forum and currently I am still working on getting a ZL1. However, I have been considering a back-up plan in the event that time isn't of the essence (given my situation)

Anyhow, what would you choose if given the option between the two and why? ZL1 or Cayman? Personally, I like them both although the Porsche would probably be better suited for a weekend toy, the aggressive sport-mode is fun.

Thank you.

Night and day difference between the 2 cars...I personally don't like anything that Porsche has to offer, except maybe some of their real expensive cars like the 918 and the Carrera GT, but those are also a $400K +.

ZL1 all the way.

The sound of a 6 cyl is never for me.

Cayman would be underwhelming. If you're over 6ft it will be like sitting in a phone booth.
Though Porsche has made their vehicles very fine daily drivers, (I drove my 911 Turbo daily) I think that you would get bored very very fast.

Very well said...

I find my 991 C2S even with sports spasm and PDCC very tame and not exciting or raw enough... It does have PDK and may be different story if it was a manual transmission. Fine daily driver and altogether too damn perfect... --> boring

The GT series cars are a different story and now with the turbo 4's and 6's in their regular line up you lose the nice sound. Even the sports exhaust pops and crackles are contrived and predictable after a while, which is not the case with the camaro or GT350...

Porsche = perfect prim and proper wife...
ZL1 = hot girlfriend....

I rode in my buddies GT4 yesterday. Pretty impressive. I can't imagine what the ZL1 is going to be like.

Cayman is 4 cyl turbo now. I was interested until I saw I'd be paying $60k for the base engine w/ a few options after discounts. Drive both and tell us what you think.

my good friend has a Cayman S with just about every possible option which nearly ran him almost $90K. Fun car that handles very well but no fast (relative to the ZL1) and there is just something missing in the torque department (like the other half of the engine.) If you are a power guy, the ZL1 in the only answer. IF you are more finesse, it is hard to beat the Cayman.

Good correction. I forgot that they have changed, so for me even worse. BMW did the same thing on the 328, made it a 4 cyl.

Cayman S has only two hundred and some pounds of torque for 75-90 grand, retarded.

Two totally different weapons, although both can be weekend toys. The base caymans I've driven on the street have always felt depressingly lethargic (haven't driven the current 4 cylinder model), but the taking corners in the gt4 on the track is an adrenaline rush. Like others have mentioned, if you're a tall dude (I'm 6ft+) you're not gonna want to take long stretches in the cayman.

The zl1 is the total package imo...price, performance, comfort. And I'm not sure if you even care about this type of stuff, but the base caymans is at the very bottom of the porsche food chain, whereas the zl1 is the top dog of the camaros and not far behind from big brother, z06.

Thanks for the insight, this helps a ton in my decision making process. I like the top dog better. When I drove the Cayman I can certainly attest to the fact that something was indeed missing. Might as well get an EcoBoost mustang when considering the Cayman

Well in this case, the EcoBoost is pretty fast.....
