Mine is a early build MY17 and Auto. So hopefully we can get some other responses to tell if certain build dates or M6/A8 issue.

It's a bit hard to tell from this angle and light, if there is enough clearance.

I should get one of those, do you have a picture of the camera view with better angle and lighting maybe? My car didn't give me any CEL yet but it did for the other owner

2016 1SS 6MT Jan. 2016 build date
Hmm. Same with the other 2016 or 17? I am having hard time understanding the clearance on above picture

Let me try another pic tonight. Will try to get the camera down there but essentially the loom goes down and curves to the passenger side about 3" below the belt. The loom goes up like in your pics but I don't have another wire the comes off at the angle it does for you, which is where the trouble is.

hmm, it's just the angle/perspective then. That wire with green and red looks really close to the belt but it sounds like yours is safe

I have a 2017 2SS M6 and I have the harness with plenty of clearance to the belt.
I believe it may plug into the camshaft position sensor. The unit in the block is black plastic and the connection end is angled 90 degrees. That seems to be the right location for that sensor and the look matches the parts diagram seen here:
http://www.gmpartsdirect.co/auto-par...n-control-scat

Close-up here:
http://www.gmpartsdirect.co/oem-part...bC12OC1nYXM%3D

If it is the camshaft sensor, I think an intermittent short would cause problems with engine management.

My 2017 1LE had the same problem about 3 weeks into ownership. Completely frayed that harness and the car went into limp mode leaving me stranded.

Tim @ EFI-Tuning was kind enough to help me cross reference the code I was getting to a location. Sure enough those wires down there were completely cut. I jerry rigged it on the side of the road, got it home, took it apart and fixed it properly and ended up zip-tieing it out of the way.

Wish I would have saw your post earlier I could have told you exactly where to look!

More pics from my borescope camera. It's crappy quality b/c it's only like 1-2MP camera. Can't get enough room to get my phone in there for pics.

#1 shows the 2 wires running from the A/C compressor which are at least 3" from the belt
#2 shows looking from the belt to the harness plug all 3 wires connect to
#3 top angle of the belt looking at the 3rd wire which I believe is the same one OP had damage too (can't tell where it goes from this harness). About 2 inches of space and below the belt.
#4 tried to get some better light and a farther shot of the 2 wires/belt
#5 That's the plug all 3 wires go into. It does not look like a crank position sensor and seems to be attached to the side of the EPS.

What code were you throwing?

glamcem,
Thanks for pointing this out. I checked mine and it appeared to be in a similar spot to yours. I would estimate maybe 1/2 - 1" of clearance though. I could not see any signs of wear, but I also only have ~250 miles on my car and have not really had it above 4k RPM.

I zip tied the section that loops around to the main harness (toward the closed end of the loop). There's much more clearance now, but I will keep an eye on it to make sure there continues to be adequate clearance with this initial solution.

Thanks again! You saved some of us a potential trip to the dealer.

This is really a crappy routing design for the harness for it to potentially be that close to the belt. GM should fix this ASAP before they end up with a ton of warranty claims and unhappy customers!!
