High Oil Pressure at WOT

So something I noticed today while at the track, my oil pressure after a second or two will jump to 80psi from about 60. I dont know if it always did that since Im usually watching where I am going but it freaked me out. Oil wasnt quite up to temp, shame on me, when I noticed it happened (160f~), but I tried it again later when oil was around 200 and it still happened.

Its a 2018 ZLE with 30k miles on it, fresh delco Oil filter and 15w-50 mobil 1 put in yesterday.

I called my friend who works on my car at the dealer and he mentioned its normal, and sometimes the gauge is inaccurate since its digital.

Oil pressure cruising on the highway and at idle are 100% normal, no signs of anything odd there.

Has this happened to anyone else? I am wondering if my sensor is going out, from what I can read this isn't a sign of a failing pump, and I am pretty far out of the effected date range though I wont count it out.

the same thing happened to me. when I switched back to 5w-30 after tracking the idle oil pressure was much lower at 22 psi.

Perfectly normal with that heavyweight oil and a 2 stage pressure pump.

Not the greatest idea though to drive around with that weight oil all the time though.

Normal. And with that thicker oil not surprising at all until you get things nice and hot.

On my C6 Grand Sport, when the oil is cold the pressure is pegged out at above 80 psi at idle with 5W30. But it is normal as it is a dry sump engine.

There really isnt issue running it year round down here. I have no cats either so no risk to ruining them, and most of the time the car is completely warm before any movement. Also the car isnt driven around on it a lot, track time and maybe a once a week drive to keep everything running well.

Yep its crap. Its about gas mileage. I want protection not a 100th better gas mileage. At least use something with some cold weight at least a 5w

My motor on 0w40 looked bad when i tore it down even the cam bearings and of course the rod that sized. Been running 15w50 for over 10000 miles its much better oil and definitely gives more protection.

My sons mustang had oil pump gears fail and we pulled the bearings on the rods and they looked great all except the top side of the first 2 rods were a little scared from lack of oil crank was mint. Bering's did their job and sacrificed. Put new rod bearings and still running great after about 10000 miles. he runs 5w30 castrol edge.

If anything I would run the 5w 30 over the 0w40 anytime. my 2 cents

I made a thread on this a good while ago. It's perfectly normal with any oil type you're running

I have the same issue. I started a thread about it earlier this year. Went off topic a bit, but nobody seemed to indicate it was a problem. Interesting that not all ZLE's do this. I track with two others, all of us running 15W50, and mine is the only one that will peg 80+ over 5krpm.

I have gotten into the habit of short-shifting on longer track straights to avoid the issue. (As opposed to just riding red-line into the braking zone). I have ~6 track weekends on the car without any other symptoms or concerns.

I'm running Driven 0w40 now. According to their specs, its a higher in anti wear additives, moly, zinc etc. I also notice higher oil pressure then when i was using mobil 1 0w40, that stuff is like water.

Before driven I was using Motul X-clean gen 2 5w40 which i was very happy with.
