Headers

Does anyone have any experience with Speed Engineering headers? The are 2" headers that look just as well built as others on the market for a third of the cost. If anyone has them or knows of them, let me know. Going on a 2018 ZLE.

The Chinese knock offs. Get them if you don’t care about American jobs, or the theft of intellectual property.

I bought a Chinese (knock off) header/off road/catback kit for my 2SS and I spent a ridiculous amount of time and effort making it fit... I am sure it cost me more than double of what kooks would have cost. With time, I just took it all off and placed it in the garbage.

Also the knock offs have oftentimes a ton of internal issues, the surfaces inside the header may be rough to the point where you loose HP and cause engine issues.

If you want to save some money I believe TSP may be a better choice. If you're not a welder and don't have access to a machine shop, don't go cheap.

Cheap=regret

At least go with Kooks. I went with Kooks 2” headers with ceramic coat. I have heard American Racing may be slightly better, but cost more too. As the previous person said, inferior manufacturing processes can potentially lead to increased turbulent flow through the pipes.

I’m all for saving cash but on items like this the extra money is worth it. Kooks ceramic coated can be had for around 1200 with catless pipes. Shop around. CSP has great deals or rdpstore.

++++++++++1. I bought form off-brand name headers for my 2010 SS and had to ding the driver’s side header so it would clear the steering linkage. Save the extra money and get the good stuff.

Hence the reason I asked. And I am all about American products but I just bought an Elite Catch Can...made in America...and had to do way more to it than I should have. American..Chinese...they all have their issues. Ill just wait on the Texas Speed ones and keep my money in Texas!

Most 2" headers, regardless of brand, has to have the driver side dinged a bit to clear the steering. Kooks and AR disclose this themselves

I had both Kooks and Speed Engineering headers side by side at home and ended up returning the kooks. The build quality was IDENTICAL and the speed engineering headers fit with zero issues. Both were 2" and there is plenty of clearance with the steering shaft on the speed engineering headers.

And the functionality? Have you seen any issues with your headers after the tune? Sometimes dumping the money into something just because it cost more doesn't mean its better. Guess that's why we all own ZL1's and not Z06's

You own a car made with Chinese parts...with American workers just like speed engineering. You can come down from your horse now

Oh and US made headers with Chinese steel. It’s all full circle
