2018 ZL1 1LE Electrical Issues at Track

Hi Guys,

I have a 2018 ZL1 1LE, I was at COTA this past weekend and toward the end of the day i started having some electrical issues. Left headlight and left taillight went out, right side markers went out and front no Left turn signals. I went out for another session and the tachometer went wild, bouncing from 0 to 9 but the engine performed fine.

Any ideas? I checked the wheel wells no holes in any of the fender liners or exposed wiring harness that could have been rubbed through? I have a headers and lower pulley with tune, is this something GM will cover under warranty?

If this is your first time tracking the car with headers, I'd look for a wire harness that may have come into contact with the headers or got close enough to start melting.

Negative, I have at least two track days with the work done

I pulled the wheels off at the track, no rubbing or damage to fender liners unless they got snagged on something behind them?

Hopefully you in good with your service dept. Doesn't sound like these mods would cause your issue but they definitely can deny warranty work over it. Hope you can figure it out.

Also, didn't know you had a ZLE now... and already hit COTA. Let's see some video

Did everything come back on or is it still out? You may have a short circuit and it being all your lighting lends me to believe it’s that. Should blow a fuse, have you checked that? Check around your car and see if you see anything. Does your manual have a wiring diagram, if so take a few photos, I can try to help you out, that’s my job everyday.

Checked headlight HID fuses but its weird as there are multiple lights out on each side. I will try to find a diagram, but i could not find a specific fuse for taillights i may be missing it. Would a fuse affect the tachometer issues as well?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe there is a fuse box under the hood and under the dashboard so it could be tied to multiple places. As far as the tach, I’m not sure, I’d have to see a line diagram. I googled a bit but was unsuccessful in finding anything labeled ZL1 besides google search saying that, but that’s not very trustworthy.

First thing that comes to mind is when you had the work done the techs may have had to remove a and/or multiple grounds and may have accidentally left one loose. Check your fuses first. Do your best to check around the area they worked in for loose wiring/connector attachment points. Could be a connection that isn’t fully seated at a connector?????
Have a good look. If you don’t find anything obvious take it to the place you had the work done so they could have a look.
I bet it’s something like a bad connection or ground.

Not yet! Does this wire harness cover the lights/dash? this could be the issue and the notice I'm looking for.. Will the dealer still cover this with my headers and tune?

Try to check the fusses, not only the ones for the taillight, but also all your BCM fusses, we had that on our 2016 car, taillights on one side stopped working, we looked at all the fusses for the taillights and it was not them, so looking at the wiring we found out the the BCM controls the taillights.
