I would guess some are running these at the track but the times are not impressive for the amount of mods to post. Most interested in 1/4 mile times would likely be better off with just a tune and a set DRs. Everyone wants those big dyno numbers to boast about.

I’ve taken my last few cars to the 1/2 mile events out here, but I haven’t been to the dragstrip in almost 8 years. I’m doing a test and tune later this month, so I guess we’ll see how that goes.

What are the roll cage requirements these days? Back when I first started running at the strip, it was 11.99 or faster. I know it’s quite a bit lower for late model cars, but I’d agree that I’m not interested in running if it requires 5 point harnesses, a cage, etc.

NHRA has a new rule for late model cars with minimal mods. 10.0 and 135mph. Many local tracks with non sanctioned events are even less stringent.

A lot of tracks have stiff rules regarding what you can have done, how fast you can go, roll cages, etc. Most of us don't wanna screw up the interior of our cars with a roll cage just because we did a pulley and set of LTs and are too fast for the track without a roll cage. Plus some tracks have long waits and you'll get only 3 runs and 2 of them will be with them hotlapping you. And quite honestly, some of the personnel at tracks have no clue how to operate one efficiently or even professionally. So we resort to Mexico.

Isn’t that technically only on “unaltered” aka stock cars? That’s how the rule book read to me.

From my experience with with most of the street racers I know it really comes down to ego. A lot of these guys think that they, and their "crew" are big dogs...and with 1000-1200 hp in a street car most of the guys in the parking lot think that as well. Park that little thing next to a top alcohol dragster that's putting out 2500-3000hp all day long doing 5.50's in the 1/4 and tell me how big your ego is then.

Wow!! That is real impressive! Thanks for sharing.

For me, the street racing thing was over a long time ago. I did it, had a blast doing it, survived it, and I'm glad to make it out of that time of my life with my license still intact. lol. After knowing several people who were killed street racing, I decided the track was best for me. I understand that accidents can happen at the track too, but there's less chance of injuring spectators. To you guys who are enjoying your toys in "Mexico", please be careful.

Thankfully my local dragstrip let's the Cars and Coffee meet be held there every few months when they aren't having big race events. It's a great day for street cars to go out there and get in some clean runs. The big time drag racers dont come, so there is absolutely no waiting. You can get in as many runs as you desire.

There has been some 9 second Zl1's that have posted times. They are out there
This is respectable.

Fearless or Ignorance, it is only a matter of when. I did alot of that stupid stuff when I was young but it's not a consideration today. There are just too many people and besides, would you really bet your life on a silly airbag that only inflates once for a second or so? One false move and someone is dead or seriously injured. Just hope it's never someone I care about. Here in Kommiefornia we see it on the news damn near daily.
