Replacement axles...

On my 20111 2SS supercharged (500HP) just spun the cage out of the outboard CV on the Pass. side. Replaced with ORilleys OEM replacement axle. It fits but looks different than the OEM. What kind of life should I expect? I drive the car pretty hard.

Basically the same as OEM.

Try buying some BMR trailing arms and BMR toes for the rear to avoid wheel hop and good luck to you...……...I am at your power level N/A. Other things that can be done are a LPW cover for the rear, etc...…..

Is there any special way to install the axle? I just pulled the brakes and links and removed and replaced the axle on jack stands...

Thats about it. Just make sure you didn't damage the axle seal on the diff and you tighten the axle nut to the appropriate torque.

In what way does it look different? The passengers side axle is bigger diameter than the drivers side, not sure how much but there is a difference from driver side to passenger side.

The right one in the picture is the passenger side.

hopefully I can get an answer on this thread. I recently rebuilt my 1le and made about 473 whp and 433 wtq. I was on a street tire trying to just do a burnout, and my rear driver side cv axle popped! lol, thank god it wasnt my diff., but I am just going to replace the cv axle, nut, and seal, with the power im making, is it still safe if I was on slicks?

Guys, as we put power adders on our cars, we need to look at the parts that will be put under the additional stress. In the OP's case, his cv axle went out. I'd say, while you're in there, check out the rest of the differential. Replacing those wearable parts now, while you've got it up and open, save time in the future from having to pull it apart again. Also, if you drive your car pretty hard, may want to look into more of a race cv axle vs an oem one from a parts store.

I've heard stories of the aftermarket axles having vibration problems. I talked to Jannety about it and they usually keep stock axles and driveshafts, removing wheel hop is the most important thing. You can pop 1400hp axles with 500hp and wheel hop

I tried staying with stock drivetrain after adding a supercharger and ended up eventually replacing every part after the crankshaft once I went to street slicks.

In 3 runs at the strip it twisted the rear cradle, hammered the cradle bushings, bent items including trailing arms etc. The posi is now burned up.

If your replacing stock with stock it should be due to mileage wear. Otherwise the added power is going to repeat the failure.

A good friend in San Francisco has a Chevy SS, he's "blown up" three rear diffs so far, he has a Camaro diff carrier in the car at present.

He added Whipple blower, long tube headers, and an exhaust to the car so far.

With slicks he was killing rear diffs, he built one with a new heavier carrier and gears then started blowing up axles.

He just got a new set of axles that look like they would be fine on a Kenworth, he's also got a 1 piece aluminum drive shaft on the way.

So, if you're blowing up diffs and fix that problem axles will be next!

Awesome... I know, I am goig to just stick to another oem axle, and send it for the rest of this season. then next year, I will replace bushings, toe rods, arms, etc. and look over my rear diff. and hopefully I can eventually get that 1 piece drive shaft
