If a V6 option continues on in the Mustang I'm willing to bet you it would be the 2.7 Micro v6 EcoBoost out of the F150. A DI 5.0 at 465 HP, 2.7EB at 350 HP and a 2.3EB at 320 would do nicely, especially if paired with aluminum doors to shed an additional 50 lbs off the weight

There may be a V8 that is always available in the Corvette and Halo cars...but it won t surprise me if by 2020 or 2021 cars of similar price as the Camaro use TTV6'S vs V8's, no matter what AFM, multi speed and ratio transmission choices you have |

So this topic has gone off discussion a bit but here is my take.
There is not much doubt in my mind that the new LGX (with 8 speed auto) will be as quick as a stock Ecoboost in 0 - 60 and faster in the 1/4. Heck, the 2015 Mustang V6 already traps as high or a smidge higher than the EB in the 1/4. The older 2011-2014 Mustang V6 with the PP option is even faster. The new T4 Camaro will be quick and peppy... likely 2 - 4 tenths quicker in 0 - 60 than the 5th gen V6 (automatic) but not as much in the 1/4 mile. But the LGX will distance it, noticeably in the 1/4 mile. Tuned...it will be very fast. Tuned, bolt on, and supporting mods (or bigger turbo) and you'll see it running V8 like times. As for what Ford will do. They will up the power on the 2.3 OR they will use the 2.7 which is rumored to go into the new Focus RS that is coming out, that (I THINK) is rated at 330HP and 350TQ. With that kind of HP and TQ, even with the 6 speed auto versus the 8, it will be enough to overtake the LGX Camaro. Also, they likely have an 8+ speed automatic coming soon, so there is that.

Focus RS is getting the 2.3l with modified bits and I'd bet is at 330-350hp. I'll be curious to see if Ford does keep the 2.3 where it is and replaces the v-6 with the 2.7 ecoboost 6 or if the do away with the v-6 and up the boost of the 4. Performance and real world fuel economy o the 4 and 6 are pretty similar IMO.

The industry trend as a whole is moving away from V8 powerplants and are moving to boosted 6's. Beyond low production, >5,000 a year, it's going to be increasingly harder to get a V8 past 2025. In fact it wouldn't shock me if by 2025 the only GM product you will find a V8 in is the Corvette, and even then in HiPo versions. Real world fuel economy means nothing at all to CAFE, it's all test cell numbers. |

They should start selling roller cars. Let me swap in my own V8... That would help the hell out of the CAFE standards. There would be a ton of cars with zero emissions...

The EBs are consistently running better times than the V6 Mustang. Also I'll add that aftermarket support for the EB is insane and it is very easy to take one into the high 12s without putting a kill tune on it. The 2.0T for the camaro is truly the base model and with the V6 having 50 more HP I would definitely go V6. It just won't be worth it to mod the 4 cylinder just to catch up to the V6. Now against a tuned Ecoboost the camaro V6 will have problems
