Escort 9500ix for me. Has saved me multiple times, including just yesterday afternoon. Most of the guys here in Texas don't use LIDAR or Instant On equipment so the Escort is pretty effective. Usually gives plenty of notice of what your'e about to get into.
I have ran across one case of LIDAR. It would have been way too late to slow down, but luckily I was going the speed limit at that time. I don't speed all the time. But, when I do I like having the extra help. If your'e always speeding the law of averages says your'e eventually going to get caught. Unless you go all out on a jammer system. Wow those things cost some money!

RedLine
For the longest radar-warning range.... it would be the Escort RedLine. Now, with the new software update.... it is a true winner.

I've got a Beltronics RX-65 and its been great. It's actually the same detector as a Passport 8500 X-50, in a different case and with a couple of extra features. I've had it for about 7 years and I can't remember exactly what I paid for it, but I think it was around $400. At the time I bought it, it was the only one on the American market that picked up the European KU band. There was a lot of speculation the American police were going to be going to KU. I don't think they ever did, but I figured if I didn't buy a detector that picked it up, they would. It did start giving be an error msg a while back and I sent it back. Their customer service was great. They had it repaired and back to me in about 3 days. I'm sure that there are better detectors out there by now. I think if I was going to get a new one, it would be a Passport Redline. I think it has the longest range of any detector on the market.

Haven't had a detector in my car since the early 90's when my original Escort was stolen. The best defense you have against another ticket is your mind. Granted, I've been driving longer than many on here have been alive but it comes down to age and experience. You can't drive around everywhere like an a-hole and not expect to get tickets BUT if you know where and when its safe to drive like an a-hole, the world is your oyster. There is nothing more enjoyable than taking out the SS and "pushin" it a little....a detector is only a false sense of security

AWESOME feedback! Exactly what I was looking for!
I'm not looking for a detector to cover me when I blaze around town, I'm looking for something to cover me when there's a speed trap, or a cop gunning on the move and I'm just moving along over the speed limit. That's how I (and most of us) get our tickets.

That's what I've done, and it's worked dozens of times, but there have been several occasions where I'm distracted talking to someone in my car, etc. and a cop has been coming the opposite direction and picked me out of the traffic flow to give me a ticket.
I'll be the first to admit I was speeding, it'll just be nice to know ahead of time to tap those brakes a bit.

get a good one, anything beltronics, the cheap ones are just toys. although I think I read that Whistler is making a really good detector for the money now, like $150 and it's almost as good as a bel.
But even the base model Bel is a great detector, I think it's the Pro 100 for like $170. by the way, Beltronics & escort are the same company now,, I have a beltornics RX65, it's a discontinued model but still works well, just doesn't have the GPS feature. check out TIGERDIRECTdotCOM, they have lots of reviews on them and sale dozens of models. they're good to have not just for speeding, it's good to know when an emergency vehicle is coming up behind you or there's an accident over the hill or around a turn, Last edited by CyberPunk223; 04-23-2013 at 07:19 PM. |
