Advice on installing a skip shift eliminator on my own?

Hey guys,

Did I quick a search and didn't find anything, although my question is odd.

So I've got a skip shift eliminator waiting for me back at home. I'm wondering if it's possible to install the eliminator without a lift? All I've got access to are jackstands and a low profile jack. I'm hoping it'll just be cramped but I can still do it.

Also, any advice and tips would be great!

Thanks,
Chip

I think you can do it. Jack it up in the air to give you a little more room. Oh, and read this first:

Yup it's easy. Just make sure to install it correctly. It's the plug closer to the front of the car that is a little bit harder to get to because its near the top of the transmission.

+1 You just need enough room to get under there. It will take longer to get the jack stands in place than to actually plug in in.

With the GM GFX on this car I can't drive up (forward) on my ramps anymore (that I used to be able to use on the V6 I had previously) but I was wondering if I could back up onto them and have room enough to install the SKE I got recently from APEX? I'm not at home right now so I can't measure the height of the ramps but they're a standard size and I'm curious if they would raise the transmission area up enough to slide under there and have doable access?

I have the same ramps you do and they BARELY clear. I know if I had GFX they wouldn't work.

It was scary changing my oil with those ramps, haha. I'm going with jack stands next time around.

Speaking of, where does everyone recommend I put my jack stands and jack the car up from?

I wish I had the spare cash right now. :(

Just buy a 1x10 or 2x10 from Lowes and set it in front of the ramp. Instant extra clearance.

Well see my problem is with the front bumper AND with the rear of the wheel well. Once I get up to the top of the ramp and go over the little lip (so the car settles on the ramp), the rockers almost smack the lip as the wheels roll past it.

Not sure if that's what the problem the other guy was having with GFX.

Then do it for both front and rear wheels. By raising the rear slightly on the wood you reduce the severity of the angle so it should give you more clearance up front at the rear of the wheel well. Problem solved. My consultant fee can be paid in beer.
