Yeah, glad the driver is fine and the car landed on a tire wall.

Looks like too much throttle too soon after they got out of that corner.

Also, I didn't see the PTM mode indication, which is somewhat curious. I put mine in Sport 1 and Sport 2 last time I went and that was indicated at the bottom of the PTM footage.

Dude was driving in regular Track mode, a bump made him lose control, he overcorrected AND went on the brakes, the worst things he could have done cause that looked easy to save.

Yeah, it looks like the brakes were stamped on a bit too hard. Looked through my footage again and 2.5 bars out of 5 bars is somewhat heavy if my memory serves right, which you don't want to do in an oversteering situation.

Let’s give this gentleman some praise:
-Explored limits of his car in a safe/controlled environment (not in “Mexico”)
-Had the guts to post his video for others to learn from

Backstory is that it was at SCCA Time Trials during tracksprints. In a FB group post, he stated his PTM wasn’t engaging properly so he ran all nannies off. He exited vehicle because he was only person on the course (no other traffic during tracksprints), and he was getting away from the airbag fumes.

What praise is there to give? He went full throttle coming out of a corner to an elevate he couldn't see ahead of, even on 4th that's going to spin the tires if they're cold, specially if he had the nannies off (which I presumed showed in the PDR).

I’m with you. Far too many armchair experts that claim to know better.

Even if he did wrong, which I’m not stating either, I give credit for demonstrating humility/vulnerability in posting the video so others can learn and benefit.

Hope the damage was minimal but more likely was extensive. If so, hope he had track insurance.

Rewatched a few times...

Based on my track experience and the footage, it seems likely to be cold weather > cold tires. That’s problem number 1.

Here’s what happens next. He crested the hill and applied full throttle. The rears spun. You can see that by the near instant 90-110 mph acceleration. Rear now has no grip. Front still does but they’re pointed left. Car begins moving towards the wall. Tries to catch it but now everything is sliding and shit happens.

Turning over a crest at speed is tricky. Mix that with cold weather and tires... it’s a recipe for disaster. Had he been driving with some nannies on, (even track) it might have saved him.

I don’t know if you track your car, but your post indicates you likely don’t. In a track setting, he would have run that “blind” corner many times that day. Also, track-minded folks know they are always vulnerable to the ‘one bad move’, and generally approach others in the sport that have made a mistake with more grace than you seem able to offer. You’re not “the man in the arena”.

If you haven’t done a track day, I’d highly recommend it. Great people, great times, and it’ll change your perspective on a lot of things.

You nailed it. Also, not many lateral transitions until the ‘incident’, he likely didn’t have much heat or good feel for the tires. Was likely benchmarking his turn-in and braking points based on full lap reference points, not cold tire, standing start track sprints.

And I agree, Camaro PTM seems most invasive (helpful?) past apex, on throttle. You can just about floor it in that profile and let PTM sort out the traction, which can build bad habits (guilty of this myself). I think any of the PTM settings would have mitigated it.

You can see that the car was loose from the jump. Cold tires with no nannies = trouble.
