*UPDATE* Supercharged LGX new Dyno figures, and questions about the 8Spd Trans

Hey guys, it's been a moment or two.

I haven't updated everyone on what's been going on, as well, not a lot had happened due to covid.

As a quick recap, I bought the Edelbrock 1.7L roots supercharger for my LGX Camaro. It came stock with a 6lb 3.5" pully. I got about 80ish WHP from it going from 260WHP to 340ish WHP.

I wasn't very happy with their extremely fat tune, and my pipes were being blackened by the amount of unburnt fuel. That said, the performance increase was significant, and the physical equipment was quality stuff.

So I bought an 3.25", 8lb pully, and had my shop retune the car. They wanted to push for more, but due to spark knock, they had to take timing out and we ended around 353WHP. Another small increase, while they told me "You need to go to these cattless downpipes, the engine is being choked. This will fix a lot of your issues."

Soooo, I waited on that. Until I realized the other possible problem they warned me about manifested and "forced" my hand, I started to blow my cats out. I bought the American Racing Headers, 2016-2020+ Catless downpipes. I got those installed, and they re-tuned the car and I got another solid 30WHP. I went from 353WHP to 383WHP, and it's still a very conservative tune.

It pulls really hard now, if it doesn't spin the tires. The only "worry" I have is it will slip the clutch really hard between 1st and 2nd when WOT sometimes. Or when rolling into the throttle and shifting it'll so something similar.

There aren't many options to fix this, and I don't think spending $800 on "transmission tuning." will fix that, will it? I probably need to upgrade the internals, or swap to a heavier duty transmission? Unless it is rated for the same load the SS made, and just needs to be tuned to expect that power?

Here is a video, it doesn't show the slipping but it does show the acceleration. Make sure to turn the sound on.

Crap, realized I posted this in the wrong section. Probably needed to post this in the forced induction section?

My primary goal here is asking if the Trans tuning that is being offered, would make a difference in my transmissions ability to cope with the significant increase in power?

Very nice. So you're running about 8 psi on 93 octane?

We only have up to 92 here, but yes. With the downpipes they're able to do a whole bunch more.

I'd like to push to 10 or 12lbs and get up to around 425WHP, but with the integrated headers, I'm not sure how much more I can really do with this engine without E85 or Meth spray.

Good deal. Those numbers are right there with a stock LT1

So the question begs

How do I deal with the transmission slipping?

If I do a manual mode, WOT pull from a dig, if I shift at 7k, it'll slip real bad into 2nd, and then I'll early shift into 3rd to deal with it.

Will a "Trans tune" help this, do I just need to check the fluids? Is there any mechanical upgrades I can do to it, or is a trans swap(to like the current 10spd) the only viable solution?

I'd start with a tune, at the least it should help with the slip. Looks like the gearbox is rated at 400 lb-ft and looking at your WHP I'm sure your close to that. That's what sucks about the non V8 Camaro's. The torque that the rest of the drivetrain can handle is barely more that the engine's produce stock.

Here's a video with a cold start with the new pipes.

With a trans tune you should be able to up the line pressure at WOT shift, which should help eliminate slippage.

On the topic of the transmission, I take it you had the latest fluid and flush procedure done?

I'll have to go to my service center and find out and schedule one if one hasn't been done yet.

Reason I ask that is because if it hasn't been done that could be part of the problem. If not caught in time it will damage the torque converter and that's obviously not good

Same! Had mine since December, I got a post or two floating in this sub about it.

Another friend of mine did similar to you but went down to a 3 inch. I’m gonna be a little more conservative and do a 3.25 inch myself.

Did you swap the pulley and belt or the shop did that as well? Hoping to see what I’m about to get into lol
