Ceramic coated ZL1 1LE wheels today

I was curious how the satin finish would respond. Had to consult a few local pros who assured me it leaves the wheel finish somewhere between no different—>slightly more shiny.....but essentially the same. Wanted them to be easier to clean after track duty (the only thing I’ll use them for). Figured I’d make a quick thread incase anyone else is wondering about a change in finish afterwards.

Process:
1. Pressure washer rinse
2. Washed with Clean Slate, rinsed
3. Iron X while still damp, rinsed
4. Quick once over with clean slate again, rinsed
5. 90% dried with Master blaster
6. Eraser wipe down
7. Pinnacle Black Label Wheel Diamond Coat applied with foam finger sponge
8. Suede MF to remove (more like buff, this coating kinda rubs in mostly)
9. Black Fire SI02 spray sealant as a topper an hour after coating cured a bit.

Also did a fairly thorough full maintenance wash on the ZL1. Foam bath etc etc.

My back hurts lol.

When GM replaced my stock wheels, I clayed, ceramic coated, Hydr02'd them. It didn't really affect the mat black finished. They still really clean up nice and it's been well over a year.

What is Clean Slate?

Bill

Clean Slate is a surface cleanser made by Chemical Guys. It strips wax and sealants but is clearcoat safe. Good stuff as long as you are going to at least seal and /or wax after.

Chemical Guys Clean Slate is meant to be used as an additive to car wash shampoo to strip wax and sealants.

WipeOut is Chemical Guys' surface cleaner. It removes waxes and oils. Most often used before ceramic coating instead of isopropyl alcohol (IPA), as it is now believed that IPA just pushes the oils around. WipeOut is much cheaper than Clean Slate.

I know I know lol. Lotta work just for a picture haha. These are for track duty. Still too hot near me for an HPDE. Not trying to beat on the Camaro in the heat lol.
