ZL1 K&N CAI + TM TB installed pics/opinion

Tried my hardest to wait for my exhaust install to put these parts on at the same time....but my impatience got the best of me.

I chose the KN intake mostly because it does not require removing the stock fitting from the OEM intake which is difficult to do (and reinstall) without damaging the clamp to the point where it's obvious it's been removed, or unuseable (que the 2 people who did this with other intakes successfully without damage). I wanted to keep the OEM intake in one piece, and easily reinstalled without moving parts back/forth from each (sans MAF). I also LOVE the carbon tube as it matches the hood. Quality is VERY nice....black worm clamps etc.

The Tony Mamo throttle body removes that massive hump in front of the blade. It looks like you'd expect a ported TB to look lol.

I took my time on the install as I'm fairly OCD about this car. Took about an hour start to finish. Reused original TB gasket. Looked/felt brand new. I wouldn't have minded a New one being included with kit just for peace of mind.

Started the car. Let it idle for several minutes. Then took a very leisurely cruise for ~15 mins.... seeing if it would throw a CEL (never did), and letting the car "see" any change in airflow. Once it was up to full temp I parked it and shut if off for like 5 mins. Then fired it up and went for another drive. Car definitely sounds a tad different as you can hear it suck Air at light throttle input. Also slight increase in blower whine. Did a few pulls and car is fast AF. But I'm barely passed the easy 1500m break in that I followed , and only went WOT a few times before the install. It definitely didn't feel slower, but the butt dyno is only so accurate with small changes on an FI car. It will go back on the dyno once I get the exhaust done (Corsa extreme axle back, with custom 2.75" X that removes the 2nd cats).

Its a shame RotoFab don't realize that that stupid fitting is important!!

I ALWAYS used RotoFab, but that fitting thing pisses me off for a $400 intake. They cant spend five bucks to give us a damn custom made fitting?

I was thinking K/N also, waiting to see that CAI does on 10/10/17 then make my choice.

I agree it's annoying, but it's really not difficult to replace the oetiker clamp if you wanted to go back stock. The crimper tool is like $30.00

A member posted he bought a massive kit of clamps from lowes or an auto part store and the OEM size was not in the kit. I'm not trying to shop all over for a difficult to locate clamp, and crimping tool for a part that is included with other intakes. Is an inconvience no matter how you slice it. You can purchase an OEM elbow that includes the fitting it but that runs ~$100 which puts other offerings in the KN carbon price territory. Plus the CF is the hotness.

I have the clamp and the tool. It's the principal!!

It's not a $199 ebay kit. its a $450 top of the line product, How people think this is OK and make excuses for Roto Fab simply blows my mind.

not blowing smoke, proof I have the kit

I really like the looks of that! Right now that would be my #1 choice for a CAI based on the looks and the connector. Curious what others come out with, but that looks hard to beat.

Here's a kit on amazon. $50, ouch. No idea what the specific stock size is.

661.00 for a CAI, wow!! Don't get me wrong to each his own, looks good on your car but that price is total BS.

Does the K/N have the 2 plates inside the tube by the MAF sensor?
