ZL1 CF hood insert polish/ceramic coat question
Hey detail gang! Embarking on what I anticipate to be a several day 397 step detail job on my ZL1. Going to polishing with a DA for the first time (Rupes LHR15, I’ll practice on our accord first), and essence, then coating with CQUK among other detail tasks.
I know the manual specifies not to polish or wax the CF insert or something along this lines. What do you guys think? Safe to polish/coat like normal? Or maybe hand polish it then coat? Thanks for the insight! So excited for the journey! |

I’d hand polish, then coat. It is a special clear coat, behaves like normal, but you don’t want to burn through it on an edge due to being new to polishers. Random orbitals are unbelievably safe, but no reason to take any chances…
Medium speed for any of the work you do on the car, with essence… |

So what did you end up doing with the CF insert?

Hand polished with a black hexlogic pad with essence. Coated and Reload like rest of car. Looks great.
Only issue was on rest of car trying to use Rupes without washer mod. Nearly useless on several panels. |

Hey Ninetres did you complete your coating project yet? What coating were you planning on using? You need to make sure that scratches are removed before you coat it, because they will be hard to remove once the coating is put on. Usually cutting and polishing the paint is a at least a two step process.

Scroll down in the detailing sub forum and you will see my thread with the entire process I did documented. Came out 90/100 I’d say. More than happy for my first time behind a polisher and using ceramic coating.
The paint was nearly scratch/marring free before I started. Used essence to polish, and Cquartz UK for paint coating. |
