Selling your tracked 1LE

I dont know about you but the C8 debut has me thinking about selling in a few years depending on how things ultimately shake out with its pricing/performance/reviews.

So ultimately how do you sell a car that has been tracked? What is your methodology regarding putting a prospective buyer at ease buying a car that has been tracked? Would you yourself consider buying a car that has been tracked? What other strategies have you used?

I for one started out by keeping a spread sheet that logs every track day, every fluid replacement, and every part i replace on the car.

Provide maintenance records. I personally perfer to buy cars that have been tracked as 99% of the time they are far better maintained.

I've never had an issue selling any of my cars and I've tracked basically every car I own.

This right here! A lot of people assume "oh he tracked this car, it's probably been abused" when in actuality us track guys are usually the most meticulous about maintenance because if something relatively minor breaks/goes wrong it is amplified when on track so we have to make sure everything is all good.

I don't keep detailed personal maintenance records but I have kept my car stock to maintain the warranty (and that has been VERY worth it) and have most maintenance done at the dealer so it's all in their system.

So basically if you are selling it private party, be up front, it's a track car so someone will probably want to buy it to track it and they won't be bothered that you tracked it. If you are trading it in.... ehh I'm not gonna tell you to lie to a dealer but as long as the car is in good shape do they really need to be told you tracked it a lot? haha

I also would have no issue purchasing a tracked vehicle especially if detailed service records are available.

I've both purchased and sold tracked vehicles, it helps to have service records however many track guys choose to take care of their own vehicles. Like it's been said, most of the time tracked vehicles are better taken care of than some other cars out there.

Keep an Excel spread sheet of everything that's been done to the car maintenance wise. Most track buyers will be ok with track use on cars.

Tracking puts a great deal more stress and wear and tear on a car. Not a reason to fear buying one, they are built for that. That wear and tear will effect value IMO though.

I traded my SS 1LE in with tech inspection stickers, rubber marks on the front and side and track pads installed (left the stock pads in the trunk though).

They gave me top value for it. More than any other dealer with leftover 2018 ZLE's was offering - by thousands.

I think this is the point to take away. Track miles are very different than highway miles when it comes to wear and tear. If your car has 10,000 miles including 10 track days a year, don't expect to get the KBB value (which assumes those are 10,000 DD miles).

This... I wont even look at a car that's been tracked unless its significantly discounted or I know the person. There's far too many cars to choose from out there so a car that's been wot for 20min+ sessions, potentially spun into the dirt etc would need to come to me discounted to even consider it.

This is the boat I'm in.
While a tracked car may have better maintenance routine, it also spent much more of it's life under load at high rpm, heavy acceleration, heavy braking, and high G cornering.
All these things shorten a cars life much quicker than cruising to C&C on sunday morning with weekly washings.

And all people are different.
Some will maintain their vehicle religiously.
Then others will drive it like they stole it.

I have officially changed the oil in my '18 more times than I've washed it......

Stop and go traffic & city driving are pretty tough on cars even relative to track driving so I don't necessarily buy the "track is hard on them" philosophy. Hard on brakes and tires? Certainly. Rough on the paint. Sure. I sold my last track car to another track guy. He knew it had been meticulously maintained without reading a page of the 3 inch thick folder I handed him.

I've also seen "garage queens" that get a few hundred miles a year with black brake fluid and the original motor oil. Definitely wouldn't buy one of those!
