2017 SS 1LE headlamp question

So I just noticed my drivers side headlight is out, but get this, both the high and low beam is out. This seems strange as I'm used to the low beam always going bad first (with halogens); but I don't even know what kind of bulb I'm working with in there. Can anyone enlighten me? TIA...

The high and low beams are the same light. There’s a mechanical flap operated by a motor that opens for the high beam and stays closed for low beam. If one is out they will both be out. Not sure about how to repair it though. Hopefully someone here will be of more help.

Plug and play with the light bulb. Should be a GM part number on the old light bulb. They are expensive but that tends to be the same story with all HID light bulbs

Get the D3S 5K bulbs, go to The Retro Fit Source they are like 70 bucks for both made by Morimoto which I need to do for my ZLE, they are nice and white unlike the yellowish stock D3S.

They give you a choice of color temperature, I'd go with 5500 K (OEM is 4300 K, which has a warmer, very slightly yellowish tint).

THIS!!

I have tried 5K, 5.5K, & 6K.

5,500K is the purest white with only a VERY tiny bit of blue hue.

5K was great when just looking at it on its own, but next to a LED lit car, it still looked yellowish.

6K was way too blue for me

5.5K PERFECT

Thanks, everybody. Is changing the bulbs out pretty straightforward?

Thanks again. 5500K bulbs ordered from screaming chicken. Tracking says they arrive Friday. Will be changing out both on Saturday using this guide: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...99&postcount=6

Let us know how it works out.

Are you guys running the 35W or 55W bulbs? Thinking about switching to 5500K bulbs, I don't mind the stock 4300K but prefer the whiter light with the ever so slight hint of blue

I stuck with the 35 watt, as I didn't want any potential issues. The good aftermarket brands , even at 35 watts, have better light output and beam pattern than the stockers

I'm still wearing off the factory stockers, after that I'll switch to the "regular" 35W 5500K Morimotos. Plenty bright enough for me, and I don't want to be a douche with blinding headlights, unlike a bunch of SUV and monster truck drivers here. At times these force me to drive essentially blind for several seconds, not cool at all.

I think this is the route I want to go. I as well am burning the stock off first. Any slight dip in brightness and I will switch them out. I have noticed the bulbs flicker ever so slightly on bumpy roads. I wonder if they are seated correctly in the housing
