Worried about not getting a 2024? There are still 3,174 2023s available

After being told that at least three of the major options on my 2024 order would not be available - and believing that this trend will continue as Chevy empties the shelves of parts - I decided to look for a comparable 2023. In the Camaro Inventory on Chevy.com, I found three suitable alternatives within 500 miles. After a call to the dealer who had my first choice, I made the deal and had a new 2SS in my garage less than 24 hours later.

The only difference between the 2023 and the 2024 was the rear spoiler, and I can change that. Best of all, with the 2024 price increase, 2023 rebate and dealer discount and incentives on the 2023, I saved more than $5K. Plus, I have a new Camaro to enjoy now and I don’t have to put up with the stress of wondering if an allocation for a 2024 will come up in a couple of months, 6 months or never.

I started this process wanting to own a last-year Camaro, but that became less important considering my low position on the dealer’s list and Chevy’s unlimited possibilities for not being able to deliver cars as ordered. However, for now I’ve got a new Camaro to drive, but I’m leaving my 2024 order in place.

The Lowering Suspension and the Sway Bar Suspension Upgrade Systems were both dropped near the end of the 2023 run and then briefly reappeared for 2024 - before being killed again. All black wheels except the ones with the red stripe are on constraint unless they’re part of another design package or CEs, which killed the black forged wheels. Also, the heated and ventilated seats that were standard on the 2SS are no longer in the Ordering Guide.

Of course, some of these options may return during the abbreviated 2024 run, but I doubt it. The GM bean counters’ objective has to be having as few Camaro parts as possible on the shelf at the end of the run in January.

Same here - started with a 2024 1SS order, but after price increases and incentives found I could get a 2023 2SS in transit for cheaper. A lot after-market options are also disappearing, such as the rally stripes, they can no longer be ordered through Chevy’s accessories site. Still have to wait on transit, but at least I know the vehicle has already been built - that is a weight off of the shoulders.

I wanted them for my 1SS but now they are exclusive to the CE. Luckily my 1LE build came through. Also you can't get the second gen carbon flash front splitter on a 24 SS.

This isn't true, heated/ventilated seats are still standard for 2LT/3LT/2SS/ZL1 trims as of today.

If you get an SS 1LE, you won't want those black forged wheels anyway, and even if one purchases a non-1LE (like myself), the SS 1LE wheels are the non plus ultra; I got myself a used set and will run them forever.

The red caliper option, however, did fall victim to the collector edition, see below. The point about bean counter targets is likely spot on.

Your comments point out the biggest problem of all: No one knows what the heck is going on. Chevy said the heated/ventilated seats are no longer available when my order went in 6/15. There’s nothing wrong with the forged five-split-spoke wheels; in fact, they’re one of Chevy’s best wheels but are being reserved for the CEs. You’re right, the 1LE wheels are the coolest in my opinion too - I had them on my 1LE - but you really need to upgrade the tire sizes so you’re not wasting the wheels’ extra width. I’m looking for a set of 1LE or ZL1 new-car take-offs for my 2SS.

I just want to make the choices and get what I ordered, instead of not knowing or having Chevy send a Frankencamaro with a window sticker showing a bunch of substitute parts or items that were deleted. Even worse, I’m waiting for someone to get a 2024 Camaro with a Silverado glovebox saw-zalled into the dash, because Lansing ran out of the Camaro gloveboxes.

I'm totally with you on how frustrating this "left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing" brouhaha that GM are affording themselves. I looked at the order guide again today and trust the information therein as official. Let's hope things don't get to the "Frankencamaro" stage, though

On the 1LE tires, well half the point is being able to get wider tires and the resulting extra grip and precision. Those forged black wheels are too narrow IMO, but please don't take this the wrong way, it's a matter of taste also Black wheels go well with most Camaro colors and they look badass—all I'm saying is once you go wider, it's hard to go backwards.

I bet what your salesman meant to actually tell you is he wasn’t able to order a 2ss that week. 2ss has been on constraint for awhile (last I checked at least).

Uh, no - I’ve been through this process too many times. We knew there was no allocation, but still made a call to try to get clarity on the inconsistencies in what equipment really was going to be available once production started.

Maybe it's just the dealers you've been talking to that don't know what is going on.

Spoke with the GM of my Chevy store just last week. He mentioned nothing about any constraints with my 2024 2SS vert order.

That may be so, but for many the dealer practically is GM. A customer cannot realistically be expected to know these internal details and intricacies of a company's allocation and distribution system that are being discussed and disseminated here, on an enthusiast forum.

Imagine if you had to do that with all your appliance, home improvement, medical etc. purchases. Whenever that happens, which I'm not denying, you know something has gone very wrong. Even with a house sale/purchase transaction, arguably the largest one typically makes, people would rely on a network of professionals without having to become intimate with the entire body of regulations and procedures.

The website might show 3174, but a lot of those are sold orders. My car has been sitting on my dealers website inventory for a couple weeks now...

Also, if you really want the GM Lowering Suspension, you might be able to find it as a kit somewhere. Part numbers shows as 84225258 which showed available on at least one site I checked (gmparts direct).
