E85 tune
Hey guys! Kinda new to this forum. Ive searched and seen a lot about this e85 tune. I cant find exactly the answer to my question. First of all is this tune specifically for putting e85 gas in your car? In my 2010 i had my ss tuned for 91 bc i thought that was best for our cars then?i would never put e85 in my camaro then. Can you just not tune these newer camaros for 91 and call it good? Or are people getting this e85 tune bc the gas is cheaper? Thanks for clarification.

I feel like E85 is a no brainer first mod if you are willing to tune the car and have an E85 station near you. Kind of like headers and tune were a no brainer first mod for 5th gen SS cars.
Pros: Cheap. sensor: $215, tune: $700 (bit of +/- here) HP Gain of 30-40 whp. Tailpipes don't turn black. Smells less bad than gasoline if you have no cats. Cheaper $/mile than gasoline. Cons: Bad fuel mileage - I get 23-24 on the highway, usually 15 or so around town daily drive average. Literally no other cons. I've seen oldman say it a few times and I have to agree. Best "stage 1" round of mods is primary cat delete, E85 sensor, factory ported intake manifold, and tune. You're looking at 60-70 whp for roughly $1,400. You can go a hair further with full bolt ons (throttle body, cold air intake, under drive pulley, long tube headers), but you hit diminishing returns in a hurry. Gm should have enabled the flex fuel from the factory and added the sensor.

With the flex fuel sensor it will allow you to run any mixture. So pure e85, straight 91, or any combo. Like 1/2 tank e85 and half 91. The sensor and tune account for the mixtures

Flex fuel sensor reads the percent of ethanol in the fuel mixture and adjusts the tune accordingly...so you can run whatever blend that you like or is available at the pump. It should be standard on every vehicle GM sends out the door imo.

If you don't have access to E85 then you probably don't want to spend money on the E85 sensor and tune. Your Camaro is already tuned from the factory with the ability to adjust to gas octane level. I wouldn't say that it will make the car run "bad" but the engine will reduce timing on lower octane fuel to prevent engine knock and that will lower engine performance.

The guys did a good job of explaining what a Flex fuel tune means. Ted.

The mpg is worse but it cost significantly less then 93 per gallon. So the cost to operate is a wash or slightly cheaper.

Does E85 actually lower engine temps? Alky always did back in the 80's on my Nova drag car. Of course it was all Alcohol and no Petrol
