AFM Drone on Highway

It took me a while to figure this out but I noticed a rumbling sound on the highway that I thought was my transmission downshifting but eventually realized it was the engine battling for control over V4 vs V8.
When I am cruising the highway, the car goes into V4 mode quietly and you get some great MPG....but as soon as a hill comes along, the car starts rumbling as the V8 engine tries to resume control. It's not a huge deal but on long trips in hilly terrain, the constant mode changes can get on my nerves.
Is there any way to disable the AFM feature without chopping off parts of my car?

Plug and play! Check the "members" for sale section and sometimes you'll see a used one or two for sale!

Also, if your camaro is a 2019 it would be Riverside Blue and not Hyper Blue!

That sounds like the transmission shudder issue. You will want to take your Camaro to a dealership to get the fluid flushed as soon as reasonably possible to avoid long-term damage to the transmission. Here is a link to TSB 18-NA-355.

Corrected: As stated by others below the 2019 SS models got the new A10 transmission. The TSB only applies to the A8 transmission used in the 2019 Camaros with 4 and 6 cylinder engines.

I agree, likely TC shudder.... The V4 to V8 mode should be almost seamless. I think 2019 still potentially has the torque conv isssues. If it sounds like you are driving on the grooves on the shoulder of the road, its TC shudder.

If you have an A8 or A10 put it in the manual mode and run it in 8th or 10th gear. When in the last gear pull it back to the previous gear then shift back to the top gear and you should stay in the v8 mode at hwy speeds.

Does it do this at about 80mph?

If so its not DOD doing it.

2016-2019 Camaros have a Transmissions shudder

Happens between 30-80 mph when using light accelerator pressure.

Might want to check the TSB Forum if that is the case.

Also note: This is something you want to fix asap. Prolonged use of the car can cause your Torque Convertor to go out and will need replacement in addition to the Triple Trans flush.

I totally agree. You need 20 quarts of that fancy new ATF and it will be smooth as silk. Hopefully you can get it under your powertrain warranty, because the dealer told me it is $20 per quart.

I didn't know the A10, even the "small" 10L80 version, was also impacted by the shudder issue... OP has a 2019 2SS and supposedly the 10L80 with it. This could easily be just AFM kicking in and out because OP is feathering the throttle on the boundary, IMO that Range device is definitely worth trying. However, if it's the shudder, then there goes the argument about how the A10 is an inherently superior design.

OP, any chance you can post a video so we can see/rear what is happening? Do you also feel any vibration during this?

A 2019 SS should be a 10 speed, no converter bullshit with the 10 speed from what I understand, its a 8 speed auto only issue.

Let's wait for OP to chime in and tell us which transmission he has and maybe post a video to actually see/hear what he's experiencing.

All sources I could find indicate that the SS had the 10-speed (10L80) for that model year, only the 1LS/1LT/2LT/3LT trims were equipped with the 8-speed transmission (8L45). (I forgot to download the 2019 order book and it's no longer offered by gm, sigh...)

I have a 2SS w/ an A10. When I am listening for it - I can hear the engine drop from 8 to 4. During my commute I am on a 15 mile single lane road to my job...so with that said - I usually put the cruise on in traffic and let it ride...once in a while when the need to pass someone going REALLY slow - I just jump on it and it takes off - drops a few gears...seamless going back from 4 to 8

I think they did a great job with this setup. I was stuck with the A10 because I wanted the Orange 2SS w/ the convertible. Considering that the Camaro lifespan is dwindling - I may order the Vivid Orange 2SS Vert with the M6 and a few other goodies! We will see - I like the metallic orange over the flat orange!
