Why does the horn beep?
There's not that much to complain about these cars BUT sometimes I think they put too many electronic gizmos. One that really bites my ass is sometimes (about half the times) the horn sounds when I'm getting in. The odd thing is it's not every time, but more like every other time. I'm a late nighter living in an apartment complex, I don't want the horn going off. I checked through all the settings and can't find any function to shut it off. Is there no way to shut it off...
.Kinda foeking retarded if you can't...

It should only do that if it has issues detecting the key when you get out of the car I think.
Usually when it detects the key inside as you're walking away. To remind you that you're leaving it behind. This is definitely NOT normal behavior, especially if it's only when you get in (SMH).

Agreed that it doesn’t seem normal for the horn to honk like that. Are you unlocking the car remotely with the fob or by touching the door handle? Maybe try the other method to see if it makes a difference.

This might be a stupid question but do you have a second key fob in the car somewhere? Center console or glove box?

I may have had this happen the other day. I was in a parking lot and getting in, and as I was sitting down the horn beeped, and then beeped again a second or so later. I thought it was some other car next to me, but my girlfriend standing close to the front said it was my car.
Edit* This is a very distinct difference from leaving the key in the car when I get out.

Agree with everyone above, only beeps if I get out and leave the key. and that is a distinctive rapid double chirp of the horn.

In a manual transmission it beeps if you didn't set the parking brake correctly last time you were in. Happened to me more than once.

He has an A8 but I never set the parking brake at the track and neither my SS nor the ZL1 ever beeped at me for that (both M6).

Yeah I saw he had a A8 but figured I would throw it out there. It all depends on the settings then I guess. Do you have the horn beep with automatic locking once you park and walk away? Regardless, I figured it was possible that something similar was happening. Maybe not?

I keep the fob in my pocket when I'm driving. What's happening is I open the door and get in and when I close the door, that's when it lets out 2 beeps.....sometimes, sometimes not. I can't figure out a pattern when it does and doesn't do it.

If the driver door is opened without first unlocking with the RKE transmitter, the horn will chirp and the lights will flash to indicate a pre-alarm. If the vehicle is not started, or the door is not unlocked by pressing unlock on the RKE activated.transmitter during the 10-second pre-alarm, the alarm will be from page 40. Is this the scenario? |

I hope not to sound like an idiot but every great once in a while I get one of the messages flash across the screen that says check or replace fob battery. I don't pay attention to it because I've only got that message 2 or 3 times in the 2 years I've owned it and the fob has always worked without any problems...
...That's why I've never replaced it. The horn issue has been around since day one.
