LT-1 Tire Upgrade Q's

I need more stick. Since I'm going to have to buy tires, I will need rims to accomodate.

I am considering 19's and 20's. I had the MRR M017 1LE reps (285/305) that I really liked. I am seeing others going with a square setup on 19's (295/35/19's for instance).

I do mostly "spirited" canyon drives. Not likely to go the track (maybe once or twice a year.) Are the 1LE reps my best bet for performance, or is the 19" option in play for street use as well?

I am in SoCal so summer tires only.

Thanks for any input.

If the roads are nice and not too many potholes, get yourself a set of takeoff OEM SS 1LE wheels. If you need more sidewall then go 19” instead.

Thanks, OEM 1LE's are definitely on the list. A lot of scam listings (especially FB) for these setups.

OEM take offs definitely pop up for sale on this forum from time to time and worth the extra effort to find vs MRR knock offs since the OEM ones are forged and don’t have a cast face like “flow formed” ones. Not the end of the world to run the knock offs obviously but might as well get the OEMs if you can.

Can I run Apex 19x11 305/30/19's without rubbing or other fitment issues?

I can't comment on rubbing or fitment issues but I did some research on wider tire options for my LT1 before going (at least for now) w/just upgrading to the stock SS (non-1LE) wider 275/35/20 for rear tires.

One issue w/going with that 305/30/19 size used by ZL1 1LE Front tires for LT1 is they are ~1.5" inches and about ~5% shorter than the pretty tall stock LT1 275/40/20 tires. I would worry going that much shorter without any changes to suspension and speedometer that was done for ZL1 w/1LE option could potentially cause some issues.

However, for 19" wheel size, it does look like just going instead for 305/35/19 would get you within ~1% of stock tire size (w/some increase in sidewall of course), so if you can get confirmation that 305 width works I would think that would be a better option for LT1.

I recommend checking out size options with https://tiresize.com/calculator/ (or similar) which I used for above #'s as it also shows good tire size comparison pictures.

Thanks for that link. It IS weird to think that a wider tire can have a shorter profile (duh, the middle number for profile relates to height v. width), but I ran 1LE sizes on my '16 SS and it worked fine. The wheel gap can be annoying if you go too low-pro, but I'm also concerned about "poke" and internal clearances. 19's with a higher profile (35's or 40's) would fill the fender gap better. I just happened to find some rims with 305/30/19's, but that is not optimal.

Lots of moving parts for tire and rim combos. I appreciate the input.

For my 2022 LT1...I grabbed a pair of oem 20x9.5 rims from Summit Racing, and got a pair of 275/35R-20 Yokohama ADVAN Apex V601 that were leftovers from covid at a great price.

Much more sticky, and it'll spin those alot less easily.

Thanks. On my SS, I moved the 275's up front and did 305's out back. Since I have an LT-1 now, the 8.5's are not going to cut it upfront. I thought about getting 265's all round with the stock rims, but buying new rubber that is still too small for the torque of a V-8 defeats the effort.

I'm currently hunting for either 1LE's or dropping to 19's. (its only $, rt?)

First thing I changed after buying the car. Went with MRR 024 wheels in 20x10 +23 and 20x11 +43. with 285/30 and 305/30

Looks great. I think I pretty much have to go staggered; the 305's are too much up front. Bummer, I had a good deal available but I don't want the headaches of rubbing the fenderwell or grinding the struts.

The deal was probably for 20" wheels, but if you really want very wide front tires, you could go up to 305 if you also consider stepping down to 19" in diameter, basically to the ZL1 1LE size. If strut clearance is still an issue, you can add small spacers.

Actually, they were 305/30/19's on Apex wheels with Sumitomo tires. I saw a old pic with the wheels on an SS 1LE, and there was a decent "poke" on the front, so I figured it would be problematic.

If anyone has put this sized tire/rim on regular LT-1, please let me know, it would save me a lot of time and $.

Thanx.

I grabbed MRR M228 in 10", wrapped them in Firehawk Indy 500s. Excellent performance.
