Spliter removal
Car showed up with a chipped splitter. Dealer said they would fix it. Was going to ask them let me install it? Is this a easy task?

Is it an easy task yes, just take your time drilling out the rivets, that's probably the hardest part.

Literally just went through the same thing with my '18 SS 1LE. I just told them to send me a check for a new one (I went with the more aggressive 2020 one).
Its an easy job if you've got the tools (jack, jack stand, Mag Pad, drill ect). I think its 12x 7mm bolts and 4 rivets to drill out. The most tedious bit is removing and cleaning the 3M tape residue that remains on the bumper. All in all I managed to do it myself in under 2hrs. |

Here are some more details on the process: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...0#post10623880
If the 2020 splitters are made with the same thin plastic as the 2017-2018s, I would highly recommend an aftermarket reproduction made of thicker plastic or you may be having to replace it again within a few years like everyone in this thread: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=516368 |

The thing about the OEM splitters vs most of the aftermarket splitters is the under-side profile. The OEM versions have a contoured, smooth profile for air flow under the car. Most aftermarket version are pretty raw and severely lacking of any consideration to under-car flow.
If you are just about the looks, there is no sense is spending the extra coin on OEM, I understand. But if you track you car, you should be considerate of the aerodynamics that GM developed into the vehicle package. I'm not an aero engineer, but I know enough about fluid dynamics to know that how air flow under the car effects the cd and how the car ends up being balanced at high speeds (how much lift is effected and where that lift occurs). |
