so C8R 5.5 DOHC NA

so what's everyone thinking, 5.5 DOHC F Crank. NA rated at 520hp 480ish tq. Looks like because of rules the C8R will be sticking to this. The sound is amazing but I wonder why develop an engine for the C8R that is barely passing HP out of a LT2 unless there are other classes that will allow a more modified version of it.

Either Way going to Launch party today here in Charleston SC ill post up some pics when I get home.

The 5.5 DOHC will put out north of 600 HP, so the engine in the C8R is obviously de-tuned in order for it to stay within line with IMSA and FIA Balance of Performance measurements. The rules state that Chevrolet with have to build 300 road going examples of the same 5.5 engine in the C8R so who knows what they will call the C8 that it 's put into.

That's what I was thinking as well - Grand Sport or ZO6.

Keep in mind, if a 600HP version of the new 5.5l FPC engine comes to the 'vette (like in a Z06), it could also end up in a 22MY or 23MY Z/28 Camaro. That's an outside chance, but still a chance.

I'd love to see it in a Grand Sport. Z06 will get the twin turbo variant I'm sure.

I believe the rule is they have to have built 300 Corvettes not 300 engines. The requirement is 300 for large manufacturers but smaller for smaller manufacturers. Otherwise we would have a 5.5 L Corvette today...….and obviously we don't. C7R also has a 5.5L V8.

I’m really interested to hear how they will manage the vibrations with such a large FPC engine.

This would be nice, but I don't see it happening with only 5.5L.

The few NA engines making over 700 HP are over 6 liters, and very expensive.

But fun to think about.
