Out of State Tickets.
So on my way back from NC to FL i was pulled over in GA for speeding. He said i was doing 86 in a 70 when i had cruise control on set at 80. Going down hill picked up speed im sure. Seems funny he picks that speed since the new "super speeder" law passed and that 15 and over comes with 4 points and a add on of $200 plus the ticket. Any one have any experience with out of state tickets? I know i was picked out of the group and im not mad about it, it happens. What is the best way to fight it so it would add points? This is my first ticket in the 7 years of driving.

I would def plead your case through an attorney, driving history will probably help you in court. Since GA and FL are bordering states, they most likely share info, so it will be reported to your FL license. So you definitely want this ticket knocked down as much as possible.

Yeah i plan on talking to a local attorney if i cant find a attorney in Ashburn. But after reading about tickets in Ashburn a lot of people get them for 86 which is very fishie to me since the limits are 15 and over. I dont mind paying for speeding but i know i wasnt doing 86 when i had cc on.

same thing happened to me last month. i was coming from NJ going on vacation to Ontario Canada and got pulled over for speeding in NYS on I-81 doing 87 in a 65. did a whole bunch of research online about points, insurance, out of state tickets etc. and decided to hire a local NYS ticket lawyer who deals with the town court i got the ticket in. scanned him my ticket and he is taking care of everything for a small fee. i found out that in NYS the ticket i got is 6 points and $300 surcharge which is insane! in NJ it is only 4 points which isnt good either hahaha. whatever you do just plead NOT guilty and then see what the court says. a guy i work with also got a ticket in NYS and he mailed it in NOT GUILTY...court mailed him back saying he can either appear in court and testify or just pay a fine for not reading the signs or something weird like that. anyways just thought i share with you my recent experience and hope it helps you out alittle. good luck!

I believe you are only obligated to pay the speeding fine. Normally the points are a non issue and won't transfer over to Florida ... But to be on the safe side check with the DMV ...

Always fight the ticket, most times you dont need a lawyer, you should get a plea in,,and under 15 mph , does not get to your ins.company.. 2or 3 points should be tops, also get your speedo checked saying that the cruise was correct or not//?? should
help your case..also go to night court , so you dont take time off from work. good luck but plea it down...guilty with and explanation....you were avoiding road hazard and had to make a defensive maneuver...keep us updated..) |

will do. I hope to get it knocked down to 14 or under so i dont get slammed with the super speeder fee which is 200 plus the ticket price.

If that was you, I was traveling NB and saw you pulled over. I also heard in SC they had photo radar & you would be mailed a ticket if they caught you going over 81. I'd fight it, but I almost always fight mine due to insurance rates and other hidden expenses. EDIT: Sorry, I didn't look at your car, the one I saw was white with red stripes, they must be targeting Camaro. I was driving my wife's Suburban. |

I got two tix while in Va for a car meet back in June. I got them both within 45 mins of each other, the first I deserved, was going alittle fast and the second one was just rediculous. I just ended up calling the courts and getting the amount I owed and mailed them the money. I could made a case out of the 2nd one but as they had hoped, I did not feel like driving back up there wasting my day and money. No points would be added to my license I was told by both cops. Both were over 15mph, but they said on the ticket I was just doing 15 over and not anymore. Funny thing was they were my first tickets ever!

Once i hear from the court house ill decide what to do.
Update: I called the court house and talked to a nice lady there and she worked out a deal that if i do online classes she will knock it down to 84 in a 70 shich will be NO points and a lesser fine. As of now its 574 and 3 points if i do the class and pass its no points and 374. Looks like im taking some classes today.
