Solid axle ???
Yes yes I know I'm crazy or what not, but I am not a fan of our IRS. I have been looking at the moser bolt in kit yes it's high in price but at this point I know where I'll be pushing this car to. Has anyone done a solid axle conversion? I see a few on Google but any of you on here? Can it be custom fabbed vs buying the moser kit? Been talking to COPO direct and strange and they are planning on releasing the actual copo setup but no time frame to mine. I can't and wont do a 9" IRS setup call me hard headed but I rather do solid axle any pointers would be great thanks.

Might give them a call and see what they know about IRS to Solid swaps? |

Too bad you are not on FB I could easily get you in contact with two guys, one has done it and one I think is finishing up his mods.

The Farks IRS 5th gen routinely cuts 1.20 sixty's and out runs all the straight axle cars in its class, the two fastest cars in the class are IRS..If you understand it it can be an advantage,if I can help you in any way give me a call.

I am a little late jumping into this thread but our car was the test mule for Moser Engineering's solid axle kit. I have talked to a few of you via Facebook but if anyone else has any questions please let me know.

There is going to be a lot of variation in weights. So the answer to that one is... depends on which one you get and how much you want to spend. Weight loss comes from attention to every single detail. In drag racing there is all kinds of stuff that it takes to get down to a low weight. Titanium, aluminum, carbon fiber... I would just copy everything the COPO does. All the engineering has been done for you. You can get to a lower weight than a COPO, but be prepared to spend a fortune on titanium and carbon fiber. |

I remember when the kit came out for the Gto,I think they unvield it at the LSX shootout,it broke I believe on the first pass.I think that scared a lot of guys off on the GTO side.To do a straight axle in the 5th gen I think your going to loose the gas tank.As far as weight loss you don't really want weight loss in the rear unless you can take as much out of the front.
