Mixed Rubber?

Probably showing my newness in the race space, but I am curious if anyone has ever mixed rubber on their Camaro for track days?

I am considering something stickier/softer in the rear and a little less so in the front. Not a major differential, but since front slide is easier to manage than rear slide I wanted to know if anyone else has tried this and what the results were. My initial thoughts were Hoosier R7 (305/30r-20) rear and Supercar 3R (295/30R-20) in the front.

I don't race, but I am moving to the advanced group in my HPDE track days and wanted to try R compounds but am worried they are a waste of money for my use at this stage (but who wouldn't want to try them: the stuck-to-the-pavement feeling is pretty appealing ).

I've been running Dunlop RaceMaxx and was never crazy about them. So if the above isn't advisable, I'd love opinions on best track tire for the SS 1LE tire size (have people had better luck with the Supercar 3R or Sport cup 2 R?). In the future I may go to a 19" or 18" rim set, but for now I have a street 20" and track 20" rim set so for this season I am just replacing rubber only.

You will be fine running that setup as the 3R's grip is close to an R7, but why not just run the 3Rs all around or the Hoosiers all around at this point?

Thanks for the reply!

Main reason was looking at the different wear characteristics and trying to extend the session life of the respective tires. Having never used either, I am only going on forum opinions, but the 3R seem to get more life than the R7, but the fronts wear faster than the rears. So I am hoping that the mild differential in traction is beneficial for overall car control, and the wear pattern is more even front to rear.

All that overthinking aside, I may just go with the 3Rs at all corners, but then I start the next level overthinking in looking at the Michelin PS 2R, which is supposed to wear much better then the 3R and not lose much in traction. I just haven't heard anyone who has used that tire. Again, I've only used the Dunlop Race Maxx, so not sure what to expect. Looking for some forum wisdom that didn't jump out of the other threads so clearly for me.

I think the R7s last longer than the 3Rs
