Shark Fin Camera Project

Started another new project today. Ordered an IROC -Z Notch Spoiler and want to retain the option for a rear camera. Orderd the fin for $13 and got a spare camera for $35 on ebay. Already grafted and started building the structure for the camera. Still have some more trimming, glass, and filling to do, but its coming along. Looks nicer than the $300+ boxy looking GM one IMO.

Follow my other projects too.
Thanks.

Just wondering: are you prepared for the project of replacing the antenna? Unless you know a trick, the whole headliner has to come out which requires all the upper interior trim pieces and getting the headliner through the doors is a project itself.

Gen5DIY posted an install video for their rear view camera mirror kit, and they simply drop the headliner when replacing the shark fin antenna. I don't see how the headliner could be squeezed through the door with no damage...

Headliner does not fit through doors, removal requires removing front windshield. lowering it for access is another story.

The new OEM boxy style from GM is not that great to look at, but for the rest of us it may be the only option since the time you would have in this would likely out way the cost to sell them? (I would assume)

The headliner can be pulled down carefully. very tight squeeze getting your arms in to reach the nut on the antenna but I did it without removing the headliner completely.

I must say this is a nice project. Before the gm one was able to be ordered i had plans on doing something similar.

Do you have any pics of the IROC Notch Spoiler on your car? Thinking about buying the same...
