It might, but it also probably melts the seals and grease in your hub.

So pulled my wheels off today to check the axle nuts on my car. I also checked the retainer bolts due to this thread (https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=499904). Everything seems fine. The nuts on my car are crimped into the groove in the axle. Mine also has blue, pink, and white paint markings. I think there was one other person in this thread that said theirs was the same. So I think I'm good to go.

My car is a 2016 SS. Very early build... Was in the 2nd or third build week for the 6th gen. It was one of many cars held back for some reason(s) and checked over before they would release it for transportation. To this day I have no idea what they did to these cars, if anything. Wonder if this was part of that? My axle retainer bolts also have other markings on them that I'm not seeing on other pictures on another thread.

Your nuts aren't going anywhere. This is how the Gen5 was done. Once they are "staked" they are held.

I wonder why mine are different than many others in this thread, especially it being a very early build? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they are this way.

Not sure, cost cutting measure, who knows? Seems the nuts that can't be staked are more trouble in the long run.

Finally got around to check the axle nuts. Set the torque wrench to 200 lb-ft and both sides were just fine.

The stake mark was gone. Thanks all for the info!
