BMW owner looking at a ZL1 - couple of questions
I'm looking at selling my almost-new BMW as their latest B58 engine is a massive PITA and proving to be incredibly mod hostile
I'm debating between a M4 and 2018 A10 Zl1 to replace it, the M4 would have to be modded immediately and flash tuned to get over 500 whp, which is a problem on a 65k+ new car. The ZL1 on the other hand looks like it produces the kind of power I want, stock. To get the kind of 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers I've seen quoted, can you just stamp on the accelerator and go? I am utterly sick of having to launch or brake boost turbo cars and want something that I can just go WOT and hit big numbers. In terms of basic mods, is there anything can be done to the ZL1 without voiding the warranty that would potentially make it a 10 second car? (obviously apart from tires, lol) Thanks! |

It really sounds like for what you are looking for, the ZL1 is it. instant power, high hp out of the box, doesnt hate modification like any BMW seems to...

Firstly, you're better off posting this in the Gen 6 forum.
Dave has done 10.99 bone stock. Know that Dave knows what he's doing when stomping the skinny pedal. Many other have done done mid 11's bone stock. |

thanks for the replies! Sounds like I'm going to be putting a down payment on a Zl1 as soon as I sell my existing PITA lol |

10 seconds? You will definitely have to do upgrades that will void the warranty to reach those numbers.

I have the A-10. All I do is hit the gas from a stop and hit 3.6 and 3.7 to 60 without even trying. That's with two people in the car. I know there is more in it too. You will Love the A-10.

I love the M4 and was considering getting one before I got my ZL1. I will tell you that I ran across one at a road course and not only did the ZL1 seem to out handle it but blew the doors off of it in a straight line. I think both are great looking cars but I am so glad I got the ZL1.

With my mods, I can hit 3.5s 0-60 utterly brainless by stomping on the pedal with HOT tires.
I have hit a 3.3s once and a few 3.4s with some mental preparation and playing with modulation/brakes/nannies. These numbers are based on the dashboard timer. Haven't been down the 1/4 yet. Hope this helps. BTW it was pure frustration trying to get a repeat 3.3s time- I have given up on it and I actually don't know what I did differently to get it. I consider my car a 3.5s car.

I compared the M3 and SS that i ended up getting. The SS outperforms the M3, so the ZL1 will be in a completely different league.
I came from an E60 M5, i miss the spacious interior and the sound of the V10, but nothing else.

I had a '15 M3 before I got the ZL1. I still miss it in some ways, but I can easily say the ZL1 is a better driving, better riding, and obviously faster car.
Obviously, it's not as comfortable to get in/out of, but once you're in, it's really not bad. If you want to stick on the smaller side, you know the M2 CS is coming out with the S55 instead of the B58 right? |
