I've also sent an email to Chevrolet and received a message from them. They said they opened a case, will look into it and appreciate the feedback

Glamcem, All this hassle! I looked back at my post history. My car only had 300 miles on it before it happened. Low and behold, my buddy Flashbang23 text me today about a check engine light and it was the cam position sensor freaking out. I though back to reading this thread from yesterday and how my car acted after it happened..told him to go look at the harness, what do you know... FRAYED WIRES. He has a 17 1LE as well.

This must be a build problem during that month. Not sure of the scope yet. Maybe ask a mod to add a poll for this.

ETA: he already commented on this thread nevermind

If you look at the picture I took (post 25) and compare the harness, it appears that my car, the cable management is different than affected cars.

The red and grey cable on my car is closer to motor / rear of car, and the second cable that extends down underneath the red cable acts to pull it back towards motor.

Maybe?

Yours is like mine. It's definitely installed different. Wonder if the harness is installed on the line or at the engine plant.

Pic 1 = affected vehicle, PIC 2 not affected (at least it seems i have plenty of clearance). The yellow drawing on the first pic, i've circled the cable that should be routed underneath and in front of the other tubing with the red and grey wires. The second pic, the pink drawing shows how this route helps to pull the cabling back towards the motor.

Good catch. Yeah, in the "unaffected" car, the cables and sleeve wrap around another sleeve that seems much closer to the engine block. In the "affected" car its just poking out there with lots of slack ready to smack into the belt. Do you think that maybe there's also some differences in how the cables are routed before they're terminated to whatever they're connected to? What I mean by this is maybe they are twisted in a "helix" before being plugged into their respective terminals and its not just a simple tuck job.

As somebody said, must be a production issue, but now GM had to figure out the scope of this issue -- what shifts on what days. Either way, this looks like it's going to end up being a recall (5 minutes of work tops at a dealership, but still technically a recall.)

Yes, that is my guess the harness on affected cars were terminated before being twisted, something like that, if so it may be due to lack of training or laziness.

Just checked mine. Build date of 12/16 and it looks just like the 2nd pic above.

Noticed that my 2800 mile 2017 fifty had already worn through to bare wires today. Had it apart for my SC installation and noticed the wire. Thanks for posting this up
