Order number

Hello all. I ordered a Camaro in the middle of March and my dealer hasn’t given me anything to show I ordered anything. They cashed my deposit check real fast though. Is this normal? The salesman says they are waiting on an allocation, but I don’t even have an order number. Thanks

From my (admittedly limited) understanding:

Cashing in a deposit check right away, or charging a credit card for deposit right away, is very common. They would have no other way to know you got the funds, me think But that doesn't affect refundability, they can as easily cut you a check of their own if you decide to back out while it's still refundable.

Regarding an order number, I don't believe you get one until an order has been entered, which is done once an allocation is available to the dealership.

You can get an order # immediately as soon as the dealer enters it in to the workbench, it has nothing to do with an allocation or not.

It will just sit at 1100 status until an allocation comes up. Trust me, I waited 5 weeks until I got my deposit back and found one at a dealer I could buy.

If they haven't received any allocation by now you may have to wait for a 2022

Sorry to revive an older thread, but I'm in the same boat as the OP - order placed at dealership, small deposit paid, and I have the workbench printout that the sales rep printed out with my build the day that it was entered (with no order number on it). I did it on a Saturday and was told that they send orders on Tuesdays. Followed up today via text message (Friday, 6 days after being at the dealership) and asked if it was submitted and for the order number.

Got the response "it's in the order bank and waiting for GM to grant us an order" - which sounds like it's waiting for allocation, which I totally get. But when I asked if they had the order number, was told "when they grant the order, I will send it." I responded with some terminology I've picked up from this forum to try to imply that I know the process somewhat, without outright calling BS, hoping that would prompt him to cough up the order, but no luck.

Since I have never worked with this dealer before, I don't yet have any trust in them yet - I can't tell if they are sitting on the order and it's really status 1000 (or not even that far), or if it's status 1100 and they are keeping back the order number for some obscure reason - or more likely that the sales rep doesn't get the process and can't be bothered to ask.

Wondering how much I should push - I just want to make sure it's at least at 1100 status so I can get a place in the queue as soon as possible and actually get a 2022 car before they give up and start the 2023s....

they need an allocation from GM before anything. They can submit as many orders as they want but without GM allocating them any cars you won't get anything. Also you should find out if anyone is in front of you for allocations.

Not true. If they have put the order into GMWorkbench it will have an order# and will have an 1100 status with GM. Push for the order#. It’s your money on the line. You do not have to have an allocation to get an order#. When you get an allocation your order# just moves to 2000 status which means GM has accepted it as an allocation.

Quick follow-up question on that:
My 22 ZLE order is at status 1100. Will it move to 2000 automatically as soon as my dealer gets an allocation? Or does the dealer need to approve that the allocation actually goes to my order and not another customer or dealer order?

It sounds like I'm currently the only Camaro customer/retail order at that dealer, but you never know..

Your dealer has to give you the allocation and there has to be no current options on the car that gm is not accepting. Right now the only option not allowed that I am aware of is the GM performance intake. That is different from a build date constraint. Right now there are certain colors they are not building and some other options but they will still accept an allocation from a dealer with those options on the build they just won't get TPW and move to status 3000 until at least those are lifted and probably a while after that.

Short story yes your dealer has to assign the allocation to you and not someone else.

My dealership refused to enter my order into the workbench and give me an order number. They claimed it was pointless without an allocation. Finally asked for my money back and they agreed to enter a workbench order. Deposit placed May 5th and still nothing besides an 1100 status. Guess that’s the price I pay for getting a decent deal supposedly once it comes. Hope you have better luck!

Apparently these are the current GM assembly line constraints. These will not stop your order from going to 2000 when you get an allocation though. They will just stop 3000. Not my picture I got it from another thread.
