A8 shudder, fluid flush

Brought my new to me, SS to the local dealer for the dreaded A8 tranny shudder. The car drives fine at highway speed, but shudders around 20-35 mph. I printed the service bulletin (which I know they love to see), and spoke with the service manager. She said it may be covered under my certified used car warranty, but wasn't sure. Which means it's not covered. Said it would be $695 for the fluid flush if I had to pay. Got a call at the end of the day saying they didn't do the flush because 3 of my wheels are bent. I know anything is possible, but how could I have 3 bent rims and the car drive perfectly at 80 mph? They want $160/ wheel to straighten, then they will diagnose the transmission. Sound reasonable? I took the car home untouched.

I would take it somewhere else. Even if the wheels were slightly bent, it wouldn't replicate trans shudder between 20-35mph. And the trans flush price sounds about double of what it should be.

OP, now you have to scrape the answers together from multiple threads (sigh).

Could be wrong, but sounds like a bait and switch on the wheel repair. I mean seriously, how would you know if they did anything at all to repair them? I agree that you’d feel a vibration at higher speeds with bent wheels.

As far as the low speed vibration: When the car is in V4 mode, at the speed you reference, there’s a mild vibration that’s considered “normal”. Not sure if that’s what you’re feeling or not, but it annoys the crap out of me.

You could try a Range device to eliminate the V4 mode altogether (about $225) That’s what I’ve done (as have others).

Do the TSB anyway

Price issues aside... Do the TSB as preventative maintenance anyway.

Go to another dealership and see what they say. Do not say anything about the previous dealership or their diagnosis.

Seems a bit suspicious to me.

I just took my 2017 2SS into my local dealership here in SoCal and they said if it wasn't covered under warranty it would cost $850. They stated they still do the triple flush and the transmission takes 20 liters of fluid.

I took the car home.
