Installing 6x9s in the rear non Bose

I’m thinking of installing some 6x9 woofers (CDT) in the rear as subs, and a small amp. Are there any pre wired connections back there one could just tap into for power, ground, and inputs?

Short answer: no. There is nothing pre-wired back there.

You will need to run wiring to the front. You want to snag signal from front left and right outputs. Don't try connecting to rear signals as it's a very weak signal. Power and ground are easy since the battery is in the trunk. You will need a turn-on signal so either get an AC LC-2i or an amp with auto turn-on and high-level inputs.

Plan on pulling the rear deck to install them from the top or make a baffle to install from below.

I have all of the necessary service manual documents for interior disassembly and factory wiring schematics for the car (I have the same one). I snagged all of it from a 3-day subscription to ACDelcoTDS.

couldn't make it easy by leaving a plug I guess lol. Good to know about the side/rear speaker outputs being weak, I would have used those.

Not necessarily weak but I believe they are not a full range output and roll off the bass at higher volume levels.

The rear signal is so weak, it is nearly inaudible when compared with the front signal. About 10dB down.

As has been said.. the rear side speakers and volume are weak. I’m not certain if they receive full frequency. I’m inclined to say no, after listening to my added rear deck speakers.

However, adding an amp in conjunction with the 6x9’s made quite difference in overall sound quality and volume. I’ve changed the front speakers as well, but that’s not what you’re looking to do. The rear speakers can easily be installed from below (I found this out after I dissembled everything) What a pain in the ass…

You need to get yourself a nice sharp razor to cut the felt sound proofing from the underside of the deck. Install the speaker carrier with speaker studs facing down. I had to use a small drill to open up the speaker carrier to speaker stud openings. Once the carrier is secured, you can easily slide the speaker over the downward facing studs. I used two nuts to lock up each stud. If I sell the car and want to keep the speakers, they can be removed in minutes.

My plan is to disassemble the rear deck this week. I will remove all of the interior panels to do acoustical treatments anyway. I expect it to be very annoying, but I have 3 days with the family out of town, and i've downloaded all of the instructions for interior disassembly. While this is my daily, that's by choice and I have other vehicles I can drive. It's finally going to be cooler temps this week, so the timing is perfect.

I do agree with you that it makes a lot of sense to install the new rear 6x9 from below for an easier future swap. Just want a way to keep the bolt stationary so you can tighten the nuts from below. I think that I will modify the carrier with a dremel so a hex head bolt will not turn.

I also ordered this harness: https://catalog.pac-audio.com/catalo...arness/lphgm72
We'll see how it works. My first step will be measuring the actual frequency response of the factory system, which will be necessary when doing EQ correction with the JL VXi amplifier platform.

metra lists a harness that provides two Chanels of low level outputs and a turn on lead.

The base sound system is pretty bad, probably the worst of all my recent vehicles in the last 5 years.

http://metraonline.com/part/AXLOC-GM31 This looks like it would make it easy to install amp.

On my 2016 1SS non Bose the amp was located in the rear and I added another amp and deck 6x9.

I think I’ll get a US acoustics 2 Chanel for them 75w a 4 ohms should be fine. I’ll leave the main speakers alone.

Those CDT are a fine choice. But do yourself a favor and get a 4 channel amp so you can upgrade the front in the future without a lot of hassle. You'll be happier when you get the fronts upgraded also.
