Tire Cracking

Just took delivery of my 2022 ZL1 1LE. Had Goodyear F1’s on it. Tires showed subtle cracking on the sides of all 4 tires when I was shown the car. Dealer didn’t notice and I wouldn’t if a friend of mine, who watches several Chevy forums and had seen pictures of this, hadn’t seen pictures. Chevy refused to do anything about this and dealership will have to pick up the tab. Going to switch to Michelin PS 4S. I had these on my previous car and was very happy with them on both street and track.
As segue to this: Will wheels for the SS work on my car? I want to get all weather tires and GM apparently won’t approve any and retailers won’t sell wheels or tires for the car. I can get wheels for the SS and Allweather tires to include the Michelin PS AS 4(interestingly Michelin makes size for the rear tires in 19in but not the fronts). Tires would be smaller but on 20 inch rims. I don’t see any reason they won’t work but would hate to spend that kind of money to find they don’t. Thanks in advance.

OEM SS and ZL1 wheels will work fine. There are a number of all-season tire options in both sizes. There is a wealth of information about wheel and tire options in the “Wheel and Tire” section.

Congrats on the new car!
There is a bulletin about the tires.
I'm sure you guys have some pretty cold weather up there in Wisconsin also.

Please send some pics of the subtle cracking. If the cracking is not too bad I'll buy them.

The cracking is from being exposed to cold weather (20 F or below) then not warmed up properly before being flexed. The PS4S have the same 20 F warning, so be warned (as do pretty much all the super high performance summer tires). The Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 (non R) that come on the ZL1 are better dry/warm weather performance tires than the PS4S, but both are bad in cold weather until they warm up. PS4S is more expensive as well.

If you're only driving in cool or warm weather, go with the Supercar 3 tires in ZL1 sizes. 285/30/20 front and 305/30/20 rear.

To Heartbreaker: How do I post pictures?
To Everyone: Had PS 4S on a supra, tires were very good on track, stored car during winter in unseated pole barn - had no problems. Have better tread life and since this is the only tire I’m running for track and street they may turn out to be cheaper in the end. If I put some all weathers on the car, I may stick with the F1’s or go with a cup 2, haven’t decided yet.
I’m sitting here looking at my car sitting in my garage with 3 miles on it and it’s driving me crazy.
BTW: previous cars in no particular order, Challenger Hellcat, 2020 Supra, C3/327 corvette, 69 Nova SS, 1981 280 ZX, 88 Mustang GT.

The MPS4S was a great street tire. I run them. But I would never take them on the track. The SC3s are way better on track and 3Rs are even better yet. I keep a second set of wheels and tires for the track.

Isn’t the PS 4S the tire Chevy puts on the C8? Also, I read a recent tire review in one of the car magazines (SCCA or NASA) can’t remember which, and they rated them a great HP street tire and a very good track tire, said next step up was the cup 2. I was very happy with them in the wet or dry in either situation. The closer a tire gets to a compound R tire the more brittle they are and the more susceptible to heat cycling. The F1’s also have an issue with getting “greasy” when hot by some accounts. Wisconsin can be cold but it can also be darned hot in the middle of summer! Not a racer, just an addicted HPDE driver, so don’t have access to a knowledgeable racing crowd. Besides, my wife would kill me if I told her I was getting 2 more sets of tires and wheels for the car. Pretty sure I took her to the limit (wife, not car) when I sold the Supra and bought the Camaro.
