How often do you replace the top?

I was told that the tops on these cars need to be replaced every 2-3 years and about the same for the weather-strip. Anyone experienced this or techs that can weigh in?

I doubt that is true. I had a 95 TransAm and after 17 years it still had the original top. I just had to redo the seal around the rear window.
My current ZL1 is over 4 years old and the top (and all trim) still looks mint condition.

My convertible was manufactured in May 2016. The top itself is in excellent condition. If my rear window wasn't coming unglued, I'm sure the top would easily last another five years without any issues. Whoever gave you that information doesn't know what they're talking about.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. I thought the tops were made to last longer than that. I really didn't want to be in the position of having to replace the top and weather strip every 2-3 years.

Bought mine new in Dec 2018. It was built mid 2016. That’s 2.5 years on the lot out in the elements. No reports of top replacement, but the little doors that cover the mechanics when the top is down were broken. Fixed under warranty of course. Since then it’s been mostly garraged or parked under cover at home. That’s 5 years with original top. It wouldn’t pass for a brand new top, but at this rate I’d be surprised if I had to touch it in the next 5 years.

Dependent on the quality of the top 5-7 years or longer. My convertible is now 5 years old and top looks like new. Now problems and I park outside.

recently had the rear main weather strip replaced. The "flex" part of the strip where the top curves into the bottom of the strip had started cracking.

Lasted me 5 years
