Chris - big kudos to you and your team.

I've participated in two OLOA's and they are a true testament of man and machine - skills to reliability. All have to align to succeed. I think one of the toughest competitions for the average joe...

Cool!

Thanks Tim! It was such a bucket list item going into last year - then it immediately became the focus of my motorsports calendar. Which years did you do? Any plans of coming back?

You are so right, everything has to align. The gap between guys like me and the guys competing for the overall win is so huge too, and we're not that far back.

It's the best week in motorsports - where else do you get to hang out with a bunch of pro-racers and other famous-types?

Chris: Awesome image! My brother and I did 2001 and 2004 in my 1996 Corvette. 14th and 9th overall, respectively. It was automobile nirvana for the week as you comment.

The second event was 7200 miles in 10 days Tire Rack to Sears Point span (this included our transit to the start).

It is a grueling event that with one poor/missed session drops you chances significantly. Sleep deprivation and reliability seems to even the playing field - giving normal folks a chance.

I'd love to run again with the Camaro, but I've found myself across the pond for a few years. Glad to see the car is capable!

Definitely a feather in your cap...

Made the drive to NC to see Steven Rankins and dial in E85.

Look at those gains on a 100 degree day!

This car is rowdy.

She's been sold (to me) and pulled apart after a charity lapping day at VIR... Couple pics of the car at the event below...

The car has been hiding and pulled apart while I searched for a new heart (the 6.2 and SC were fine, but I sold them both) that fit better with the car's purpose on track. I found one in Houston that's about 7 liters big and I'm hoping to have the car back and be doing some shake down tuning in the next 2ish weeks.

Specs are as follows:
HPR 427
GM LT1 Block 4.070 bore
Callies Crankshaft 4.100 stroke
Scat Rods 6.125
Wiseco Pistons 0cc
Wiseco tool steel, dual taper, pins
CID Cylinder heads by Greg Good
LT4 titanium intake valves
PAC 1207x springs w/ ti retainers
TSP roller tip rocker arms (non adjustable)
Comp 3/8 diameter 8.100"
Comp cam 257 / 267 .650 / .650 112+4 w/33% fuel lobe
Timing set - OE with 0 degree lockout and C5R chain
Cometic head gaskets 4.100 x 0.066
Johnson 2116 lifters

Intake and TB on - need to get the map sensor extension in from fedex yet...

After that it's intake tubing/filter, catch can, tightening up the exhaust, fluids, front clip back together and a start-up tune to be uploaded and logged

Is that a ZL1 nose/fenders or an aftermarket nose with the OE SS 1LE fenders?

Everything from the A pillar forward is ZL1-/ZL1-1LE besides the hood which is a very modded SS hood

Took a while but got most of the tuning sorted out, part throttle below 2k rpms is shitty, but I can drive around it. Mostly track driving anyway.

So what's happened? Most driving it on track to shake off the mechanical cobwebs and see where the car needs changes to be reliable and fast, all while learning how to go fast after a long absence on track.

Been to Pocono once (Southeast course) and VIR twice in the last 6 weeks... here's a breakdown on what I've learned and I'll add some video too.

Couple quick pics... next posts will be individual track day updates...

Pocono:

Showed up with 3 year old SC3 tires, and brake fluid that was only used on track once before, but changed a year before and clearly had a little water in it. As a result, the car didn't have as much grip or brake as I'd have loved, but the limits were low so it was an easy way to get acquainted with the car on a shorter/slower track.

Highlights:
  • Forced my instructor (took one since I hadn't been to pocono in like 10 years and never on this config) to boil his brakes in his 997.1 on 3 year old SC3s
  • Held off a GT4 for 2-3 laps before I finally tried to go a little harder and looped the car

Lowlights:
  • All the stuff above about tires, brakes because squishy-ish as I added speed/heat
  • looped the car on the last lap of last session - gently into the grass though
  • was overwhelmingly slow

Playlist of PDR videos from each session, No pics from this one - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...S_flE5c2Zlaq2f
