2021 ZL1 - Can it be Tuned?
I'm ordering a 2021 ZL1 tomorrow from my dealer. I plan on staying stock for a while, but eventually I'll probably get the itch to mod it. Can the '21s be tuned, or is the ECM locked out? I've heard that might be the case, but I'm really not sure.
Thanks.

https://www.hptuners.com/vehicles/ You’re out of luck on the TCM currently, though.

As stated above, the ECM can be tuned, the TCM currently can't. Unless you're going for a max effort build to set records, I wouldn't worry about the TCM issue, there's still time to unlock in the future and these cars can support a LOT of power before the TCM is an issue.

Why do people want to mod/tune ZL1s? They cost $65k b/c they got the goods already. It’s not a BRZ or some other underpowered 4 banger. As I hit the throttle on my mere SS earlier tonight to get away from goof in a Forerunner, I looked down to see 118mph in an instant. Yes, I need to throw $ away and mod my car too. I should have been at 130!

I say this with a stock ZL1. Ha! Freedom to tune and mod these is awesome. In the scheme of things 650 isn’t all that much. 1000 is a nice goal overall. The first time hitting the spray on my SRT was amazing. Going from 90 to 180 in what seemed like the blink of an eye. On my next ZL1 I’ll consider modding it after 10k trouble free miles. |

Why not 2000 hp goal then? You can use only so much hp on the street before you get in serious trouble with law enforcement, that is if you are caught. I’m surprised you didn’t get caught going 180 in your SRT. It’s your choice and money though so mod that ZL1 when you get it.

You will be limited to basically bolt ons, due to not being able to get into the TCM

Some guys just like to work on their cars and derive as much enjoyment from modding as from driving. Is modding a good use of your money? Probably not, but it is an integral part of the hobby for myself and plenty of others. A moderately responsible driver is no more likely go get into trouble with a 800hp car as with a stock, 650hp ZL1. The inverse is true for irresponsible drivers.

lol. throw a big cam into a car with a t93 tcm and let me know what the drivability is like, when you can't touch the lock up and shift points in the tcm.

Define big cam, you can run a very good size cam before you have to swap the torque convertor for a higher stall unit in the A10, and even that can be done. Again, you're grasping here.
