I’m 46. I remember back in the days of lowering mini trucks by doing flip kits. Cutting springs, Doing coilover conversions on imports and German cars. Yeah those rode like crap. Most anyhow. Didn’t ride anywhere near as well as myZLE. I daily for the most part a 2015 F550. Also have an Escalade. The comments about the ride I find are way overblown. I love the way it rides and I drive the car more often than I figured I would because when I bought it, I honestly was expecting a more harsh ride. But it’s a lot better than I expected.

It's never been about the "harsh ride" for me, I like stiffer suspension set-ups and used to have an RX-7 R1 - no problem

It's which one wins in a 40-140 mph roll. The ZLE has fared worse than a ZL1 in every contest I've seen

4:30 in vs nearly stock Mustang GT, this is kind of sad

Agree the ZL1 is superior to ZLE in a 40-140 roll, which is something the ZLE wasn't designed for.

We all know it was designed for circuit track events, like the GT3 RS or other dedicated track cars, so like the GT3 RS it's at a disadvantage to ZL1s and Hellcats in roll racing.

The overall amazing visceral, adrenaline pumping experiences I've had lapping my ZLE at Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, Buttonwillow and Auto Club Speedway is hard to describe but it has a lot to do with the incredible grip, steering feel and race car like connection to the road (yes, it's somewhat rough) provided by the DSSV suspension, full aero package and massive R comps.

When I'm blasting through turn 1-2 at Auto Club at 140 mph I'm glad I have that extra downforce and DSSVs to keep me glued to the track, it's scary.

Personally I wouldn't trade that for faster 40-140, but to be honest I don't think I've ever taken my ZLE over maybe 110 on a freeway. I only drive it the freeway to get to the track or canyons, and I keep it within a reasonable % of the speed limit so I can get there without a ticket. I know if I did that I'd get a ticket, I'm not lucky like that :-)

The Mustang owner said it is 471 rwhp and it's an A10 - so at least 50 rwhp over stock - maybe more.

The ZLE was an M6, which we know is slower than the A10. It also had a (what looks like a fairly small) passenger. The ZLE also has a lot of drag at high speeds and didn't close the windows on any of the runs either. In the first race the ZLE pulls away but misses 5th and the Mustang comes back. 5th gear is not a good gear for the Camaro anyhow so he should have just let off when he missed since he had a car or two lead on the GT at the time.

Even with the inherent disadvantages of the ZLE and a passenger, in the 2nd race at the 50 roll the ZLE put about 2-3 cars on the GT. I mean, I own an A10 GT so I know how well the A10 pulls up top but a 50 roll isn't ideal (have to start in 3rd). 55 is decent, starting in 3rd gear, since that's when 2nd shifts into 3rd anyway.

It is a little disheartening that when the GT got the jump at 45 the ZLE couldn't come back - but maybe that was actually the last race and the ZLE could have been a little heat soaked. The ZLE did, however, pass the Mustang when the GT got the jump at 50 mph (a 3rd gear start for the Mustang).

That said, as I think the point of the video you posted, a regular ZL1 A10 would have fared better vs. the modified A10 GT. But the ZLE certainly wasn't designed with roll racing in mind so I'm not surprised a 471 rwhp A10 GT did fairly well against an M6 ZLE.

I'm sure that's an awesome feeling, and no question where the ZLE dominates. Too bad more of us don't have access to CA tracks

Yeah, CA is not perfect but we have great beaches, skiing in the Sierras and a lot of tracks open all year so I can't complain. Buttonwillow is opening a second circuit this year, but ACS is closing next year--I'll get at least 2 more days there before it's gone.

To me the ZL1 is the best of both worlds. It kicks ass 40-140 and even in stock form I am among the quickest group at my local road course track on the factory SC3s.

First time I ever drove my ZLE or any camaro for that matter, was after signing the papers and they handed me the keys. I am used to being in track only cars and expected a firm ride. It is my favorite vehicle to drive with my Fiesta coming in a little ways behind it in 2nd place. I wanted something that felt very track oriented. I could daly drive this and be happy as could be. The ride in the camaro is very close to my 2016 Fiesta ST. Firm and planted with plenty of confidence.

So 40-140 rolls with say both an A10 ZL1 and A10 ZLE, how much of a distance does the ZL1 pull ahead of the ZLE? I think some of us might sacrifice a little handling for a bit more straight line speed.

About 2 cars, give or take, for a 60-150 mph roll:

The A10 ZL1 is almost 1 second (0.8 seconds) quicker 60-150 mph than the A10 ZLE. So I'd expect a similar gap 40-140, maybe a few feet closer. Nearly all of that gap is made at speeds above 100 mph since they have nearly identical 60-100 mph times. If you figure that when the ZL1 hits 150 the ZLE is going around 147 mph, the last stretch of the race, say the last 4-5 seconds, the ZL1 will be going 2-3 mph faster for that length of time, which equates to about 18.3 feet further distance traveled (assume 2.5 mph for 5 seconds). The ZL1 is also pulling away at +1-1.5 mph faster than the ZLE from 110-130 mph for about 4 seconds which is ~7.3 feet, so combined those total almost 26 feet further...considering the ZL1 will start to pull away around 100 mph all told I'd estimate almost 30 feet ahead (just under two cars, front bumper to front bumper).

Owned both. If you track the car semi-regularly the ZLE is the obvious move. If purchased to enjoy 90%+ for street driving the base ZL1 is the move. Happy to answer any specific questions regarding either car or my experience owning them. (Owned a 17 a10 ZL1, and now a 21 ZLE).

I don't doubt that at all.

Shoot me a text with an updated mods list, let's catch up.
