Yep, been out for several months now. Not a bad way to go. But I had my car down for a week or so doing the Whipple and supporting mods anyway, so I just overnighted my TCM out to HP Tuners. They unlocked it and overnighted it back immediately. Great turnaround time! But tuning your TCM is a no brainer.

I’m guilty. Didn’t know this was a thing! Are we talking about a service bulletin for a factory GM TCM, or is this an aftermarket thing?

So tuning the TCM is something I definitely WANT to do, but I don't even know what I'd get out of it. (Aside from faster/crisper shifts)

On an otherwise stock car, what's the benefit here? And does it come with a tune on it? Would I need HPTuners to make use of this? I plan on getting e85 and headers in the next couple months, so I'm getting an ECM tune anyway. Would it be better to just have the TCM tuned then?

Are you installing and tuning yourself? Also, are you working on a second week in a row getting a lot done?

Guys with tuned TCMs are routinely dropping .2-.3 seconds off their 1/4 mile time. Drivability around town improved too. And you can zero out the slip tables, significantly reducing the odds of getting the converter shudder. Win-win deal. Yes, you’ll need HP Tuners plus sending it out to be unlocked in order to tune it.

Does it void warranty?

I'm getting kooks LTs and E85 Friday with Hp tuners. Trust me every one I know that doesnt get the trans tuned just the Ecu, says it feels weird as heck 1st and 2nd gear. It's a must to get done. The ones that did are Amazed with the shifts

All the good tuners will tell you to get it done at the same time. The ones that dont give a crap and jus want your money will say ahhh it doesnt matter. I personally wouldn't want to put all that extra power on a stock Trans. The TCM just comes brand new for the tuner to do his magic

Of course. If you’re worried about warranty, then leave your car stock. Going fast always costs money.

I've been debating going this route specifically. Does it just hot swap when done that way?

what happens with your old, locked one, does it become defunct?

Honestly I'm not sure yet but I'm sure it will still be good for the Stock tune if you ever decided to go back.
