Something stuck on paint, help :(

So was away for work and left the car at the dealer for service. Week prior I wasn't able to wash the car and the week I was traveling either. This weekend finally had a chance and after washing it it looked like the car had water spots like I didn't dry it properly. So I tried washing it again and they didn't come off....

It starts at the front left corner and goes a bit down the drivers door and is on the roof a bit too. I'd say either something got sprayed on the car or splashed on it while I was driving.

Any idea how I can remove it?

I’d grab a bottle of Griot’s 3-in-1 wax and give that a try. It’s not very abrasive and should take that off. This is available at many popular retailers.

Looks like dried water spotting. Perhaps from a sprinkler system at the dealer while your car was sitting out. I would use the mothers synthetic clay pad and detailer. This will take it right off. Also, turtle wax brand swirl and spot remover is a great product to remove defects. Just remember, if you clay, you have to reapply wax when done, as it strips your old protection off the car. Had excellent results with these products on black vehicles!

Good old water spots! Gotta love them. If the above options don't work..... A quick polishing with a DA and good polishing compound like wolfgang, mckees37 will take care of it.

Try something mildly abrasive like this:

https://www.meguiars.com/professiona...er-m0216-16-oz

Pretty sure you can pick this up in any AutoZone. If that doesn't work, you can try something more aggressive like this:

https://www.meguiars.com/automotive/...-152-oz-liquid

Also- while I was checking the accuracy of this response I found a thread from Autopia with this AWESOME chart:

I doubt those kinds of stubborn water spots happened immediately as a result of your wash. More likely it was a sprinkler system somewhere and you just didn't notice them because the car was dirty.

Yep, everybody’s right ...you got water spots and possibly etched the pain a bit. It will take an orbital and any of the polishes is above and prob a lot of elbow grease… Don’t ask me how I know.

Lawn sprinklers do this well......

Thank you all for the input I figured that’s all it was but I wasn’t sure? Is it damaging to leave that on the car for any duration? I travel for work every week and don’t have much time to even drive it let alone learn how to detail it like you’ve mentioned. I have a friend that usually helps me out with it but he’s busy with other cars at the moment.

In that case I'd take it to a professional detailer, they will get rid of these water spots using the methods described above.

You will also want some kind of protection if you care about preserving the paint, there are many different approaches and levels depending on how much and of course your budget (there is a whole detailing section over here )
