Can you imagine how fast a 100K ZL1 would be? Even a ZLE with an LT5 would not be 100K, and nothing would touch it in any performance metric. Not sure why anyone is impressed at this stage considering the price point of the 500. It still has some work to do yet to prove it is worth its price tag.

Well you can look at the 135k ZR1 data from the MT review 10:80s. This should give you an idea. You cant use the C8 data as the Camaro will not be a mid engine platform, traction will be a issue.

That's true.

I see you got a GT350, congrats. You have been real patient too, glad to see you got in to something new. My turn now.

Considering what Ford gives people performance-wise for the money I have no doubts that GM could build something much better and faster and still not break the $70K MSRP barrier. An LT5 powered ZL1 at $69,599 MSRP would be a steal. Even if they just carried over a few suspension components from the ZLE without going full ZLE. And even if it was just a version of the LT5 without being a full LT5. That would be enough to do the trick.

It is safe to say that the ZR1 carries a much higher price tag because it is a Vette and demands more money. A Camaro could match the performance of the ZR1 in a straight line and still not cost the same. We already see that the ZL1 at $64K is only 3 tenths off from what the $30K more expensive GT500 with 110 more HP can do. GM could revamp it so that it matches and beats the GT500 for much less than $94K MSRP.

If it were that easy the Vette would have been running low 10s with that weight to hp. Problem is without DRs, AWD, or mid engine platform those last few 10ths become much more difficult, trying to hook up 750+hp isn't going to be easy on street or track tires.

Yeah I finally pulled the trigger after waiting 3+ years for discounts. That along with the 19 updates convinced me to give up the Boss.

Blaq, with the substantial aero package that's apart of the CFTP (the rear "swing" alone is said to generate near 550lbs of downforce), would you assume it would be faster in the 1/4 vs the base GT500 mostly on account of the MPSC2's, CF wheels, and Rear Seat Delete?

If you're talking about the C8 then I do think we will see it hit 10s. That is if it gets the same treatment that the GT500 will surely get. Even if the magazines choose not to try for 10s then I bet an individual owner will do it. The thing that sucks is that it won't be an official time since it will be an individual owner. But since I doubt the testers will actually try to get 10s even tho they already hit 11.1, I can settle for 10s being unofficial.

Your last sentence is why I doubt the Base GT500 will do 10s. It has the HP and TQ despite the weight. But I do not have faith that Ford can build a car to get that power to the ground effectively. Not in the Base GT500. For $94K tho I am sure the CF version could do it. But knowing Ford they will have cut some corners on the Base and it will be lacking. Also I doubt they would build the Base at $74K and then have it perform just as well as the $20K more expensive CF version in any performance metric. I don't put it past them to do something that ridiculous. But I would hope that anyone paying $20K more would get a far superior car or have the sense to want a far superior car.

I would think that for $20K more and at a starting price of $94K and being much lighter with CF components the CF Version would outperform the Base version (and every other Mustang available for that matter) in every way possible. This goes back to a debate we had a while ago. The amount of money I spend on one of these performance cars should directly relate to how well it performs. I would expect a ZR1 to outperform the Z06 in every way as the Z06 outperforms the GS > Z51. However things are a little backwards in Mustang land. For all I know the GT350R might beat the GT500 around a track...

I believe you are correct about the base not being able to perform as well as the CFTP. Someone on the mustang 6g forums confirmed with the engineers that the mapping for the DCT is less aggressive on the base than it is on the CFTP.

I'm going to make some bold statements.

1st, I think the 1LT Z51 will hit 10s. I say this because the 2LT Z51 already did 11.1 and the 1LT Z51 will be lighter. In better conditions on a good track 10s are a given. I just hope one of these testers gives it the proper respect and treatment it deserves and actually pushes for it.

2nd, if tested same day same track, I think a 1LT Z51 will actually beat a GT500 in the quarter mile. I think the Base GT500 will definitely be slower.

3rd, I think the C8 Z51, ZL1, and ZLE are all going to beat both versions of the GT500 around a track.

Best not to let them see you coming. Over there even the ones that don’t know you know you.

I doubt an LT5 powered ZL1 would start at $69k given a base M6 ZL1 starts at 64k, and an auto at $66k. I would imagine a "base" LT5 ZL1 would be priced higher, similar to the base GT500. I mean, why not, considering all other equal trimmed Mustangs and Camaros are very similarly priced.

Can you point me to the official 11.4 sec. 1/4 mile for the ZL1? I found C&D and MT both had 11.5 @ 125 mph for the auto and the M6 ZLE 11.7 @ 123-124 mph for both mags. Question (somewhat rhetorical): Are you mad that the more expensive ZLE is slower than the "base" ZL1? We know the reasons why, but by your reasoning, you should be.

For comparison, and corrected for an apples to apples comparison, that 11.07 run would be 10.94 @ 130.2 mph based on an online density altitude correction calculator from Wallace Racing, assuming 1,800 DA. That doesn't account for any headwind, DA only. If the DA was 2,500 the corrected time drops to 10.86 @ 131.1 mph. I'm not sure what the actual DA was but that should give an idea of its potential magazine times and trap speeds. I'm excited to find out if it can hit upper 10s in the magazine tests given the known limitations of FE RWD platforms. Heck, even the ZR1 managed "only" 10.8 seconds (at a massive 135 mph ).

A potential 10 second factory Mustang potentially trapping 130+ mph is not impressive to you? That's nuts. You're either in denial or so jaded you can't think objectively.
