SS or ZL1 Mystery... maybe...
Hey guys,
I got what might be a naive and/or stupid question. There's a cat in my neighborhood (Norwalk, CA) that has a 2017-2018 Camaro that looks like it's a ZL1. However it's badged as an SS on the rear bumper. It has the hood setup typical of a ZL1 but the real spoiler looks custom add-on/swapped out, etc. I haven't been able to look to see if he has the 6-piston upgraded brakes. That might be another point to help determine this car's pedigree. Without actually finding the guy that owns this car and talking to him (duhh), what might it be? A real ZL1 or a modified SS? Guesses/speculations welcome! Cheers... |

I bet it's a modded SS. I can't imagine someone buying a ZL1 and deciding to replace the ZL1 badge for an SS. Unless he's trying to fool people he's racing, or potential thieves.

My bet is on a modded SS, I doubt any ZL1 owner would take the ZL1 badging off of their car to replace it with SS badges.

Almost sure it's an SS with a ZL1 front bumper and/or hood, the SS badge on the booty is a dead giveaway.
Brakes can easily be upgraded, too, although the 6-piston SS front brake kit isn't exactly the same as the ZL1, but you probably won't be able to see the size difference, just the slotted rotor... ask the owner and do let us know

I just find it funny he went through all the trouble and money turning it into a ZL1 lookalike, and didn't swap out the rear badge.

If he did mod an SS, my guess is that the hood and front fascia alone was likely more than the cost of just getting a real one...
