New Tune Questions

If I had a tune done at one shop and decided to get it retuned from another shop, should I have to pay for all 8 credits again or is that a one time thing?

You will have to pay for the credits again being the license only applies to the specific MPVI device car was licensed under. And it shouldn't be 8 credits...2 for ECM, 2 for TCM, and 1 for FSCM for 2017-2018.

Probably dont need the fscm unlocked again if it's already been tuned.

With HPTuners, it's 4 credits for 2017+ models. I'm not sure how it works with multiple MPVI devices, though..

So what's the downside of just buying your own MVPI2 and taking it with you when you switch shops and not have to re-license each time?

That’s what I figured guys. Thanx for the quick response. I may just end up buying my own MVPI and getting it remote tuned by a reputable shoot. This way I can data log and maybe learn a few things.

Its 3 for a 2016 and it's 5 if you want to unlock the FSCM as well on 2017-18. If you don't want to unlock the FSCM, then it's 1 less credit. And after you license it to a specific mpvi device, you can't write your system with a other mpvi unless perhaps you get the application key that has all the licensed vin's and plug it into the software. I highly doubt the tuner will give that up unless he is selling out.

Hit up Pray Performance. Proper tuning is very critical on these cars to get everything out of them. I purchased a reference tune from Pray. And that basically means he will give you a latest tune to work off of, but you have to write it and make the necessary adjustments for your combination.

For a bolt-on setup his base reference tune is pretty close. You might have to touch up the maf curve a little. I had to add a little fuel around the idle region to fix some slightly positive fuel trims but they were not bad. The biggest pain is going through all the virtual torque tables and getting them setup correctly.

Or you can simply have him tune it...much easier but I am a DIY kind of guy and like to do everything myself when possible.

Some shops wont use outside cables, for liability reasons. Some tuners get pretty anal about their tuning hardware. I've seen a few tuners who had tuning specific laptops, that they wouldn't even allow removable storage devices be attached to them or allow them to be connected to networks/the internet.

Or some shops just unlock whole years of cars and factor that into their price.

And some shops will use tour cable and discount t you the price of credits.

All you have to do is ask

What if you have an issue with the tune? I just got my baby back from a shop Wednesday and took it to the track last night. While I’m the staging lane she would idle fine then purge to 1-1500 rpm every 2-3 seconds... i put 94 octane in her. Is that normal for that rating of fuel or should I get her back to the shop and looked at?
