There are numerous differences between the LT4 and LT1 besides the obvious supercharger upgrade:
  • Stronger forged crankshaft
  • Forged pistons
  • Stronger powdered metal and shot peened connecting rods
  • Stronger Rotocast 356 T6 aluminum heads (vs. standard cast aluminum)
  • Unique supercharger tuned camshaft (less intake lift, more exhaust lift and duration)
  • Titanium intake valves and valve seats
  • 10:1 compression ratio (vs. 11.5:1)
  • DI fuel pump is 26% larger and 33% higher pressure (2,175 psi vs 2,900 psi)
  • Larger fuel rails
  • Larger/more robust fuel injectors w/ double O-rings
  • Oil scavenge holes that the LT1 doesn't have to equalize crankcase pressure to improve oil drainback
  • Larger oil cooler
  • PCV oil/air separator unique to the LT4
  • Piston oil squirters (I'm not sure if the LT1 has these or not, but the LT4 does)
  • Differently tuned VVT cam phaser
  • Fun fact: The intercooler bricks have a 10% higher cooling capacity than the C6 ZR1's LS9, despite being physically smaller.

Nope both the same and both are variable. Here is the latest revision.

I am going to be doing an lt4 SC swap and was worried about the tuning. So was thinking of just using the lt4 cam so i should in theory only have to tweak instead of start from scratch, reduce timing obviously due to the higher compression

LT1 requires abundant high octane fuel to survive under the stresses of moderate boost forced induction. If you are only planning on pump 93 octane, be prepared for reduced timing and boost.

LT1 is awesome.

Then thru sorcery, GM found a way to make an even more awesome engine which is the LT4.

After winning everything and beating everything and realizing that the Camaro simply can't be beaten, ICEs ended and the LT4 was declared God of all engines ever.

Fuel Rail between the lt1 and lt4 are the same.

Lool! The greatest statement ever!

I will have to agree though. Had the LT1 and all I can say is that the LT4 takes you to a different level.

Don't take my comment above the wrong way, I absolutely loved my 2SS. It was a great car, I had the opportunity to track it a couple of times and I really enjoyed it. The person who bought it also enjoys it as I did. But the ZL1 was my dream car and it's a different beast. I don't think I will sell this one as it's the last and the greatest of the V8s, especially in Europe/UK with all those restrictions and regulations put in place...
