Shake under boost
16 lt4 swapped car. Took it out last night for a cruise and right after a couple of pulls I now have a vicious vibration throughout the entire car as soon as I hit around 5lbs of boost.
If I cruise around normal and accelerate slowly it’s fine. Car idles fine. I got a generic P0700 code last night when it happened that I cleared which now seems stupid as the car won’t give me any DTC’s. Logged it and don’t have any misfires or KR so I don’t think the motor is hurt. The shake is very noticeable however throughout the entire car and doesn’t go away till I let out of the throttle. Any ideas? |

P0700 is a transcode. Was the transmission tuned at all?

Yeah it was but it looks like I have bigger problems. The shudder only presents itself under boost. Pulled the oil cap and it’s misting oil. Guessing I have a broken ring

That sucks and I have been there. What max boost were you running, 5 psi shouldn't break anything. What are you running to relieve crank case pressure? Are you logging the pulls?

Mighty Mouse extreme can to vent it. Was running 10psi with the stock lt4 pulley spraying meth. Wasn’t logging it at the time. Been on this setup since spring. What did yours take to fix? Pistons and rods?

Pistons, rods and polished the stock crank. I spent a lot and then that crank broke at the end of last season so I bought a Lt4 short block with Btr cam last winter. I was running about 15-16 lbs on the stock motor. Then the second short block we were running 17-18 psi on the Manley short block, looking back should have put an new crank in it but didn't see any issues with the stock forged GM. Not sure why it broke the snout on the crank but it caused all the bearings to fail as i think it broke in one of the oil passages and starve the motor of oil. Pulled the crank bolt out and oil ran out the front of the crank. Thats not supposed to happen. Good luck. I'd do a compression check and scope each of the cylinders see if the walls are scared up if it did break a ring or ring land.

My car is doing the same when I accelerate from 45-60. I can just barely gas it and it doesn’t shake but if I give it much gas it just shakes like crazy. I recently had a magnuson 2650 put on about 150 miles ago but I haven’t reall driven it hard???

I would check the spark plugs. If the spark is blowing out the engine will shake like that being it is essentially dropping cylinders.

Could be either and you would notice it at WOT and maybe probably not at cruise. Good point King.

Thanks for the info. My mechanic gets back next week so hopefully it will get resolved soon so I can get to the track since I’ve had a lot of mods done!
