New car, Clean dust from transport

Hello everyone, new to the club, not to the Camaro scene. '23 2SS 1le mt, just came in from Daytona Beach! I was very excited to have it home in Chicago suburbs, but when it came off the enclosed trailer that I specifically requested, it was completely covered in dust. From what I've read, trailers have to be vented, so it's a common problem when transporting.

After searching for "cleaning dust", it appears waterless wash and several microfibers is the way to go. It's still below freezing, so a hose is not practical at this time. I've contacted the owner of the transport company to see if I can get a discount and he said it's road salt. Of course I had to verify, so I tasted it and sure enough it's road salt dust! That's even worse. Is it the same procedure for cleaning dust?. I don't think so. It's going to be mid 30's next week, not sure if I should wait it out till next week to hose her down or get at it now.

Meanwhile, battery tender jr. is on the way along with some glue traps. My back yard leads to a prairie, so field mice are a common nuisance. Someone here had suggested placing glue traps around the tires, but I'm pretty sure these suckers can jump onto the splitter and climb their way in.
Anyhow, thanks for the add!

First things first, STOP TOUCHING THE PAINT with all that abrasive dust on it! I would wait until it gets above freezing, hit it with a foam cannon and then do a proper 2 bucket wash.

Congrats on a GREAT looking car! That color is amazing!

Congrats on this beauty, it's looking great

Echoing what 2SS Capt posted, I wouldn't touch the car at all (cue "the museum rule") until I'm able to fully wash off all the salty dust.

Salt doesn't do much until it's activated (gets wet) and turns into brine, at which point it will start to aggressively corrode any unprotected area, any flaws or minor underside scratches. You want to wash the car very thoroughly to make sure all the gunk is off.

In the meantime I'd look into iron remover products as well to get rid of any railway fallout, and of course some form of paint protection would be ideal once the car is clean.

yes, waterless wash or a rinseless is great for a dusty car. Except in this case I would not have done it that way and I do 95% rinseless washing.
With all that being salt dust. i would only wash it with a hose so you could flush away every bit of the salt off the car. Doing a rinseless or waterless you didnt get it out of all the cracks and seams it can get into.

Foam Cannon sounds like a fantastic idea. It's in its way for next week.

Adams has an iron cleaner.
worked great on my first detail
Two bucket method is a good approach however,
I just use four wash pads. each side of the pad for each
section of the vehicle. (always a clean, unused mitt on the paint

these kick ass....

It won't blow off... And if you even try, make sure it is a battery or electric leaf blower, the gas ones will likely throw a bunch of oily exhaust on the car, making the issue worse...

Do a heavy rinse with a hose, then a very heavy foam cannon and then rinse then (if you want, another foam cannon) then a proper 2 bucket wash...

Back to its original shine! Sprayed off with pressure washer followed by the foam canon.

LOOKS GREAT! (But you have GOT to STOP posting those pictures of the filthy car with finger prints all over it, it is giving me PTSD!!!)

Remember, NEVER touch a dirty car, lots of soap, lots of water, get all the heavy stuff to flow away... In the end you should be washing off very minor "dirt"... Soap is cheap, paint is not, "soap early and soap often!"

It's disturbing to me as well. Just showing the before an after by using everyone's suggestion. Lots of soap, check.

I feel you lol. About 10 years ago I owned a 02 WS6. Was my daily at the time and got dusty as I just didn't get as chance to wash it for a while, and the rear bumper really collected dust/dirt. When parked at work someone wrote "Wash me" with their finger in the dust/dirt. After washing my car you could still read the "wash me", as it had scratched into the paint. Sucked!
