Man, I hope that those guys went through the GM-recommended 1500 mile break-in period with that. Otherwise, it's going to blow up and rip a hole in the space-time continuum! Or . . . so I hear.

Kidding, obviously. Just poking fun at people who think the 1500 mile break-in is necessary for mechanical reasons.

These guys are using a stock engine, minus upgraded cam and main bearings. And, they are doing just fine not going through the "recommended" break-in.

Why was that necessary?

Whether it's necessary or not, I'm following it to the point of not being on track... Why?

Well, if I blow something out there on track and bring it in to have GM fix it on warranty over the "We stand behind the car if you break it on track while stock" -- I don't want them coming back and saying "Well, you see here where we said don't do X before Y miles?.. Sorry, not covered as you went outside the documented process and are not covered for this incident"

I'm not paying out of pocket for a motor, trans, diff, etc. should they legal-ese it out because I didn't follow the policy early on.

To discourage misinformation. Or, at the very least, to reassure people who feel squeamish about running their car during the "break-in" period.

Well, the race teams aren't concerned about the engines lasting years and tens of thousands of miles, either...

....But I get your point....Your stock engine won't grenade if you happen to go outside of break-in guidelines occasionally....

Here's a question...How much do you guys think it costs to set up a GT4 team with the ZL1 1LE. I am guessing the car would be around 200k and then all the added engineering costs on top.

The article said absolutely nothing about break in, or what the team may or may not have done to prep that engine. So it reassures no one of anything...at best - it's off topic....if you have PSA to write, create a thread!

Expensive, no doubt....But in previous discussions and statements from the builders and Chevy, the "added engineering costs on top" you mention should be on the low-end...That part is basically already done for you.

It's one of the selling points of this GT4.R built by Pratt and Miller, and hopefully more will get out there with other teams....We'll see...
