Question AWE Touring Axle Back...Do you miss NPP?

I started a thread a couple of weeks ago asking for opinions on the Borla Atak vs. S-Type axle back systems. Got a lot of good feedback, but someone mentioned the AWE Touring axle back which I hadn't been considering. Even though my stock NPP has been on Track mode permanently, I figured it would be good to keep that functionality. So I heard some sound clips on Youtube and damn the AWE Touring sounds good. To me it almost sounds like the Corsa system, but half the price.

So the big question, does anyone regret eliminating their NPP function? If the AWE isn't ridiculously loud on an otherwise stock car, I wonder if I'll even miss it?

In my humble, but experienced opinion:
1. The AWE Touring is the best sounding exhaust out there, bar none. And I’ve heard virtually all of them. For non-NPP cars, this is the way.
2. BUT, if you have NPP, I would get an exhaust that keeps NPP (Borla or Corsa probably). AWE won’t come out with a valved version unfortunately.

Appreciate your advise! I'm leaning towards keeping the NPP, but that means spending $600+ more for the Borla or $1000+ more for Corsa. Too bad AWE won't integrate the valves, it would be an easy decision then.

Several of us tried to convince them here, and they even have the technology in house already (they call it "switchpath"), but their representatives didn't budge, just kept telling us how valves were unnecessary because of their automatic "180 technology".

Yep. I’d buy the AWE for the wife’s Mustang in a second if they integrated the valves but no luck there either, so it’s not just a Camaro thing. While I understand what AWE is saying, the valve functionality is great and it’s tough to just discard that if your car came with it.

No problem!

My advice: buy once, cry once. Get the setup you really want so that way you don’t regret it down the road.

No, I don't miss the NPP. I absolutely love the sound of the AWE Touring and there is no drone at all. The problem is that I now drive with the window down, as I like to listen to it's rumble while I drive. Beware though, startups are louder than the stock exhaust.

I agree... the AWE sounds fantastic... but I do miss being able to quiet the exhaust at times. If you are planning headers and HF cats, i would keep the NPP

Not even a little bit. I actually pulled the NPP fuse as soon as I got the car home in preparation for the non NPP exhaust. Even now I don't like when the car goes into 4cyl mode because it quiets it down unnecessarily. At low speeds its just a nice deep but rather quiet tone that I love, and then I hear it click to 4 cylinders and its just depressing lol.

I will say, if I was going to get headers then I might want something with NPP just for my neighbors and coworkers. When I cold start it after work in the parking garage next to my work, my coworkers say they love the sound and can tell whenever I leave lol. Its not obnoxious though, just a growl on start up and a deep rumble after. Nothing but compliments.

I have AWE touring axle back and loved it till I did cams lol.
After cam-ing the car I missed having NPP.

With Catless headers it was fine .
Was loud but not obnoxious.

Thanks guys for the help. To answer the question a few asked, I don't plan on doing any other exhaust work to the car.

If you could put a number on it, about how much louder would you say the AWE Touring exhaust is over the stock NPP in track mode? I'd be happy with a 25-30% increase in sound, nothing too extreme.

I don't miss it because I never had the NPP
But I can tell you the stock was too quiet. I test drove cars with the NPP and they sounded the same to me for loudness vs nonNPP.
Now I have the AWE track axleback and it's MUCH better but I can't wait for a header long system. This car will scream
I can't imagine the touring AWE being a whole lot quieter than mine. It will be more muffled but should be a big difference from stock. Don't be alarmed at first startup lol, just drive it and you'll love it

Its hard to put a number on it. Cold starts and WOT is definitely louder, at least 25% I would say. Idle is about the same volume but the sound is SOOO much better. Its also not nearly as raspy when you get on the gas.

Here is a video I took of a few pulls recently. I know it wont do much justice and I can confirm its WAY better in person, but maybe it can give you an idea of volume. https://youtu.be/VNR-KKLwjpg
