I still say the best formula for a 6th gen Z/28 would be take the ZL1 1LE suspension, and aero bits, throw them on a SS 1LE with a hot LT1. Think LS1 to LS6 Or basically what the Grand Sport is in the Corvette line up. Has all the go fast goodies from the Z06/Z07 but NA. Except for the Camaro spice up the engine a bit lol |

I agree. SS 1LE with ZL1 1LE aero and suspension, 530-550 hp, carbon brakes and light wheels.

With how good the alpha chassis is, IMO it doesn't need that much power even. I think anything over 500 would be plenty, and that car would be one hell of a track toy

I agree. It may not need 550 hp, but it can't hurt.

If they make the CCBs and option with the resultant lower price that would come, the Z/28 will sell many times over what it did in '14 and '15.

GM could do all that with a simple parts bin raid (make the Z06 brakes standard, and the carbons optional) for about $12k more than what the SS 1LE costs to build, and they would have a lightweight NA track car that slots nicely between the less powerful SS 1LE and the heavier ZL1 1LE. And at a price point $20k less than what the Gen5 Z28 premiered at. Why not? |

They can gut the car like the 5th gen Z/28, but I believe that was the reason for bad sales of the previous Z. I love the fact I can drive my ZL1 1LE around town with the music playing, and then go rip down the track if I want. If the ZL1 1LE was gutted like the Z/28, I wouldn't have bought it. As much as I would love to see a new Z/28, at this point it seems useless for GM.

Here's their dilemma from where i'm sittin. They simply made the 1LE too good. It kicks the crap out af GT350 for 15k less, the ZL1LE is 25k+ more. There are dozens and dozens of low mile Z's for sale sitting with no takers at 30k under window. Don't think GM doesn't look at wholesale book on these,or dealers that got hammered on theirs. What will motivate the brass to green light a tweener low production track car when they already have excellent book end models that cover the price range? There are far less people tracking any of these than you would think. My .O2 YMMV

Correct, that's why i left out the "R" when comparing. But as to the ZL1/1LE V the 350R from a comparable price point..well six seconds at VIR is an eternity. And over the course of a real world race scenario of say a 20 lap sprint race..
